No injuries reported. “A tornado swept out of the sea and hit a beachfront neighborhood in New York City on Saturday morning, hurling debris in the air, knocking out power and startling residents who once thought of twisters as a Midwestern phenomenon.

The National Weather Service confirmed later in the day that a second, stronger tornado touched down in Brooklyn moments after the first hit the beachside community of Breezy Point in Queens.

The second tornado hit at about 11:05 a.m. in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn, around 10 minutes after the first struck. Videos taken by bystanders at the Queens beachfront on showed a funnel cloud sucking up water, then sand, and then small pieces of buildings, as it moved through the Rockaway peninsula.
