See, he gets why we all banded together…

As for wading through the crowd at the Chick-fil-A on Whitesburg Drive supporting the company’s opposition to gay marriage, Dodson says, “That’s what freedom is.”

“We don’t all have to believe in the same things,” Dodson said this afternoon. “We all have our different beliefs and can still come together and still be friends and be cool with each other.”

Dodson released a video last week in wake of the uproar over statements made by Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy saying he supported the Biblical definition of marriage — which is one man, one woman.

I’m so tired of people from the gay community telling where I can/should eat at. I’m so grown and do what I want when I want like eating at Chick-Fil-A hahahahahahahahahhahhahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

He repeated that stance today just before ordering a spicy chicken sandwich with cheese and waffle fries. Dodson stood in a smaller line than the one at noon today that stretched out the door on Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, which called for people who supported the company’s position to cater the business today.

@dancathy just called me. #ChickFilA has already set a world record today

Not a word about today’s activities has been whispered on Chick-fil-A’s feed even though CFA has been trending on Twitter off and on all day. As noted in the earlier post, the suspicion is that the company’s lying low about what’s happening in order to extricate itself from the front line of the culture war, but I wonder if today’s outpouring will draw some sort of recognition tomorrow. If Dan Cathy’s willing to tout the numbers to Rick Warren, presumably an official acknowledgment and thank you is on the way.

There’s no shortage of local news stories out there about huge lines at the neighborhood CFA; if you’re curious, these two, from Iowa and Kentucky, are fairly representative. Meanwhile, I assume some sort of “Unappreciation Day” is in the works on the left, if only to respond to such an impressive show of strength, but I don’t know. Could be that, between this and the thuggish idiocy of Rahm and Mumbles Menino, they’re ready to cut their losses. Exit question: How big a political victory is this for Huckabee?

Per this Fox News clip, even he sounds surprised.

Mayor claims Chick-fil-A doesn’t represent Chicago values. Greg says ‘What a RELIEF!’

Aug 012012

Given his stance on Chick-fil-A, would Mayor Tom Menino grant permits to a group that has counted among its leaders a man who has repeatedly called homosexuality a “crime that must be punished” by death?

~ Kinda, sorta looks like Michael Moore…

Actually, he has done that  . . . and more! Menino effectively gave away city land valued at $1.8 million to the organization, and he gave a speech at its ribbon-cutting ceremony.

During the (understandable) controversy over the city selling land for a house of worship at a below-market rate a decade ago, reporters discovered that the Islamic Society of Boston counted imam Yusef al-Qaradawi as one of its spiritual guides. As the

Also in attendance at the gathering, listening to al-Qaradawi’s message: Mayor Tom Menino.

Outside Boston, al-Qaradawi is better known as a vocal supporter of terrorism who teaches a hard-core version of Islam. His claim to fame as a “progressive” is that he was the first prominent imam to urge women to become suicide bombers, too.

It was only when his terror support became known that the Islamic Society of Boston announced that epeated listings of al-Qaradawi as an ISB trustee had been a mistake.

But nobody’s accusing Chick-fil-A of supporting terrorism — just traditional marriage (I think liberals still see the former as more dangerous). Menino heard the president of the company call same-sex marriage a “sin,” and he announced it would not be allowed to do business in Boston.

OK, Mr. Mayor. But when you gave all that land to the ISB at a song, here’s what imam al-Qaradawi was teaching:

“[A homosexual should be given] the same punishment as any sexual pervert  . . . Some say we should throw them from a high place, like God did with the people of Sodom. Some say we should burn them.”

According to the Anti-Defamation League, “In 2003 Qaradawi stated on IslamOnline that the punishment of homosexuality is the death penalty.”

In the end, says the anti-Islamist organization MEMRI, al-Qaradawi came down on the side of stoning.

Hey — say what you want about Chick-fil-A, but they aren’t trying to kill anyone. Other than, perhaps, via hardening of the arteries.

Chick-fil-A wants to come to Boston, pay taxes and put people to work. Menino says “no” because the CEO thinks same-sex marriage is wrong.

But that same mayor was all but giving away city land to the Islamic Society of Boston, even as they were presenting as one of their spiritual guides an imam who says homosexuals should be killed.

“I make mistakes all the time,” he told the Herald. “That’s a Menino-ism.”

Yesterday, on the eve of its religious-liberty-crushing mandate taking effect, President Obama’s Health and Human Services Department (HHS) made an outrageous claim:

The Obama administration will continue to work with all employers to give them the flexibility and resources they need to implement the health care law in a way that protects women’s health while making common-sense accommodations for values like religious liberty.

Religious liberty is a fundamental right guaranteed under the First Amendment of the Constitution, not a mere “value” whose worth is subject to devaluation by any given Administration’s policy. Regrettably, devaluation of this first principle is exactly what we’ve seen from the Obama Administration, which after a year of such lip service to religious liberty has held firmly to its original mandate despite widespread, intense, and ecumenical outcry against it.

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius’s latest promise rings hollow and adds insult to the grievous injury that HHS is already doing to Americans who believe that religious liberty is not something that stops when one leaves a house of worship.

The anti-conscience HHS mandate is now in effect.

* See what happens today

If employers don’t comply, what happens to them?

If employers don’t change their plans, they will be hit with fines—up to $100 per employee per day. But if they stop providing health coverage, Obamacare’s double whammy means that employers with more than 50 employees could instead be hit with fines for that.

For many, the level of these fines would mean going out of business. Applying the $100 per employee per day fine to Hercules Industries, for example—the family-owned business with 265 employees that is challenging the mandate in Colorado—would mean a fine of $800,000 per month—almost $10 million per year.

If Hercules were to drop its health coverage, forcing its employees into government-run exchanges under Obamacare, it would face a fine on faith of approximately $2,000 per employee per year, for a total of $530,000 per year.

* What about the Administration’s “safe harbor” promised to delay the mandate’s effects?

* Is this the last of Obamacare’s mandates?

This is only the beginning of the problems that Americans will continue to see as Obamacare’s mandatory “essential benefits” package takes shape.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s expected signing of the United Nations’ Arms Trade Treaty has once again raised the question of whether the terms of a treaty can take precedence over—even nullify—the rights acknowledged and secured by the Constitution of the United States.

For decades, apostles of one-world government have endeavored to convince the American people that treaties, rather than the Constitution, embody the supreme law of the land. In 1952, Secretary of State and Council on Foreign Relations member John Foster Dulles told the American Bar Association that “Treaty law can override the Constitution.” “Treaties for example…can cut across the rights given the people by their constitutional Bill of Rights.”

But the Supreme Court has more than once decided against the propaganda of the new world order crowd. In the landmark case Reid v Covert, the Court ruled”…no agreement with a foreign nation can confer power on the Congress, or on any other branch of Government, which is free from the restraints of the Constitution.” In short, as “[the Supreme] Court has regularly and uniformly recognized the supremacy of the Constitution over a treaty,” the Constitution remains the supreme law of the land, and treaties may neither supplant nor amend it.

From Mike Huckabee

Yesterday, tens of thousands of people across this country were lining up and joining in to Support Chick fil-A, (committing to take part in the August 1st Appreciation Day), and as momentum was growing at a record pace, something interesting happened…All of the sudden, EVERYTHING related to Chick fil-A Appreciation Day disappeared from Facebook! That’s right in one big flash it was gone like the Eiffel Tower during a David Copperfield Show and then 12 hours later we were back in business like nothing ever happened.

Well it seems we caught a 12 hour bug, apparently it hits when large numbers of Christians support something and post about it on Facebook! Have you heard about this bug?

We still aren’t sure why it happened, we have been told by Facebook “it was a mistake”, clearly we think it was a mistake too but aren’t so convinced it was an accident.

Could it be we were attacked because of our beliefs? Could it be that Facebook has a glitch in their system with a VERY NARROW target? Who knows if we will ever know for sure, but one thing we do know for sure is that we are back up and running and we need your help to keep this going. We have one week until Chick fil-A Appreciation Day and that is a long time to get others involved. Don’t stop inviting your friends, tell them why it is important to you and get them on board. So we got knocked down, but hey! WE ARE BACK UP!

~ background Progressive Punk: Chicago alderman Joe Moreno says NO Chick-fil-A in Logan Square

The owner of the city’s only Chick-fil-A restaurant today asked Mayor Rahm Emanuel to meet with her after Emanuel said the anti-gay views of the fast-food chain’s president don’t mesh with Chicago values.

Lauren Silich, who owns a Chick-fil-A franchise just off the Magnificent Mile that opened last year, wrote in a press release that she is dedicated to “serving all of our guests with honor, dignity and respect. … We alone created 97 jobs this past year and our passion is building leaders for future generations, regardless of sexual orientation or beliefs.”

She invited Emanuel to meet her, her husband and management staff at her restaurant. The mayor’s office had no immediate response.

Silich said she has deep Chicago roots and her husband Steve works for the city. City records indicate he’s a police sergeant.

“We hold fundraisers for hospitals, schools, fallen police, and we donate to a wide variety of causes, including everything from churches to gay and lesbian organizations,” Silich wrote.

The controversy over Chick-fil-A began earlier this week when the Tribune reported that Ald. Proco “Joe” Moreno, 1st, planned to use his aldermanic privilege to block the construction of a second Chick-fil-A in Logan Square because of comments made last week by company President Dan Cathy.

Cathy was quoted July 16 in the Baptist Press saying he was “guilty as charged” for supporting “the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

Chick-fil-A headquarters official in Atlanta have not responded to repeated requests for comment.

The Chick-fil-A in the city opened June 16, 2011. The Logan Square restaurant would not be owned and operated by the same people.

The leader of a Christian group today said Ald. Joe Moreno displayed hypocrisy for his decision to deny Chick-fil-A the right to open in his ward because of the chain restaurant president’s opposition to gay marriage.

Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee have a pretty tasty demonstration in mind, if you share their views on traditional marriage.

* “No signs and no protests are needed to make your voice heard. JUST simply have a meal at Chick-fil-A on August 1 (JUST in time for my birthday :) for ‘Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day’ and our support for traditional values will be heard loud and clear,” Rick Santorum wrote in an email Wednesday to supporters.
