Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia said Sunday the Second Amendment leaves open the possibility of gun-control legislation.
Scalia, one of the high court’s most conservative justices, said on “Fox News Sunday” that the majority opinion in the landmark 2008 case of District of Columbia v. Heller stated the extent of gun ownership “will have to be decided in future cases.”
“We’ll see,” he said.
Scalia said exceptions were recognized when the amendment was written, including a tort that prohibited people from carrying a “really horrible weapon just to scare people like a head ax or something.”
He also repeated his criticism of Chief Justice John Roberts and the majority opinion this summer that largely upheld President Obama’s Affordable Care Act, particularly the part that called the consequence for non-compliance a tax, not a penalty.
White House press secretary Jay Carney is asked if President Obama will be running on his record or on the Clinton economy.
Reporter: My question is, is [President Obama] running on the Clinton economy or the Obama economy?
Carney: He is running on his record. He is running on a vision for the future and an economic plan that has as one component a fundamental principle that everyone ought to play by the same set of rules and everybody ought to get a fair shot and everyone ought to pay their fair share. Part of paying their fair share is simply suggesting that the highest income Americans; those making over $250,000; the top 2%, including millionaires and billionaires, can afford to, and should, pay income taxes at the marginal rate that was in place in the 1990s when we had one of the strongest economies in American history and when we created 24 million jobs. An economic record that occurred despite all the predictions of a bubble in those years.
Reporter: With unemployment over 8%, GDP slowing down now, the worst in a year, you’d rather talk about those years than…
Carney: We’re not talking… We’re talking about an economic policy. His plan, which we talk about all the time, which involves a balanced approach, including the expiration of the high-end Bush tax cuts. And as a rebuttal to the assertions from Republicans that this is terrible economic policy, he points to the facts, which are that, are that under President Clinton, marginal rates at that level were in place when we saw this substantial economic growth and job creation. But, lets be clear. I saw recently it suggested by a leading republican that the next President, whether it is President Obama in his second term or his opponent in his first, that his policies should be judged after six or nine months after they come into office, and after that period its a fair grace after which you can judge whether those policies are having an impact.
LACEY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) – The nation’s oldest operating nuclear plant is back online.
Officials say power was fully restored at the Oyster Creek nuclear plant in Lacey Township on Saturday afternoon, several days after the plant lost off-site power.
The outage began Monday morning when an electrical disruption caused the plant’s reactor to automatically shut down. Officials believe the power loss resulted from a ground of a high-voltage line that provides electricity to the nuclear plant in Ocean County.
Plant personnel then spent the week performing minor maintenance that can only be completed while the reactor is offline.
Oyster Creek, which initially went online Dec. 1, 1969, now generates enough electricity to power 600,000 homes a year and provides 9% of New Jersey’s electricity.
In doing research for his just-released book The Communist Frank Marshall Davis: The Untold Story of Barack Obama’s Mentor, Paul Kengor interviewed John Drew, a former friend of Obama during the Occidental years. John Drew states unequivocally that Obama at this time was a fervent Marxist-Leninist that looked towards a literal proletariat revolution in the United States.
with radicals that included openly communist Van Jones, who would have remained until this day if not for the likes of Glenn Beck and an army of bloggers that daily uncovered more and more of Jones’ radical connections.
Was Team Obama that dense that they didn’t know Jones was a communist? This is hardly likely since there were YouTube videos of Jones spouting off about revolution literally months before Obama appointed him Green Jobs czar.
Obama knew he was a communist because Obama during his Occidental years, during his Columbia years, during his Harvard years and today is, as John Drew states, a Marxist-Leninist.
Hopefully the “revolution” that Obama seeks will be the overthrow of his presidency in November—or if we’re lucky his impeachment. – Kris Zane
Fox Flash: Face-to-Face with Gunman Jul 23, 2012 – Eric Hunter tells his heroic story
There is also a white/yellow trash bag seen by this far corner. The man was probably supposed to place his gas mask and knife in the bag and run towards the road with this bag of equipment, but he does not do this out of fear of being caught by the incoming officers.
Strange: Conspiracy theory sites are ignoring this. Alex Jones (who normally allows you to video response automatically) removed this as a video response, and also is now requiring a confirmation on their part. Test it out. This is bombshell people.
“There was one particular piece of equipment that HE HAD ON HIM that was out of place, and I am so proud of my officers that they spotted that right away and challenged him,” Oates said. “That piece of equipment was a non-regulation gas mask. Holmes was arrested at the scene.”
I leave you with this haunting reminder…listen to officer’s response on scene:
starting at 3:13 they talk about the ‘gas mask’ found by white car/suspect. SECOND Gas Mask Found at Far Corner of Anaheim Theater
