oh no you di’int

Lech Walesa was once a trade-union activist. He was often arrested for speaking his mind against Communist oppression behind the Iron Curtain in Poland and for defying the Soviet Union. He was an electrician who, with no higher education, led one of the most profound freedom movements of the 20th century — Solidarity. He became president of Poland and swept in reforms, pushing the Soviet Union out of his homeland and moving the country toward a free-market economy and individual liberty. And President Obama doesn’t want him to set foot in the White House.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Polish officials requested that Walesa accept the Medal of Freedom on behalf of Jan Karski, a member of the Polish Underground during World War II who was being honored posthumously this week. The request makes sense. Walesa and Karski shared a burning desire to rid Poland of tyrannical subjugation. But President Obama said no.

So much for goodwill.

Solidarity Poland 1981

The begining of the Polish Solidarity movement founded in September 1980 at the Gdansk shipyard and led by Lech Walesa.

Solidarity was the first non-communist party-controlled trade union in a Warsaw Pact country. In the 1980s it constituted a broad anti-bureaucratic social movement. The government attempted to destroy the union during the period of martial law in the early 1980s and several years of political repression, but in the end it was forced to start negotiating with the union.

Administration officials told the Journal that Walesa is too “political.” A man who was arrested by Soviet officials for dissenting against the government for being “political” is being shunned by the United States of America for the same reason 30 years later.

Meanwhile, one of the recipients of the Medal was Dolores Huerta, the honorary chair of the Democratic Socialists of America. So socialist politics are acceptable, but not the politics of a man who stood up and fought socialism.

This revelation follows an eruption of outrage in Poland after President Obama referred in his remarks at the Medal of Freedom ceremony to “Polish death camps,” a phrase that Poles have battled since the end of the Cold War. The phrase suggests that Poles were complicit in Nazi concentration camps, which of course is not the case. In fact, Poles were exterminated in the camps.

The White House’s flippant response to the uproar caused the Polish president and prime minister to demand more thoughtful and personal reactions. But White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said Wednesday that the president has no plans to reach out to his Polish counterparts and has shrugged off the outrage in Poland.

Few observers are suggesting that President Obama’s written remarks noting “Polish death camps” were intentionally malicious. The comment was more likely a result of historical ignorance and careless inattention. This is the same ignorance and carelessness that would cause a president to turn away Lech Walesa and label him as “too political.”

The likelihood is that President Obama didn’t want Walesa in the White House because Walesa has made critical remarks toward the president’s policies and in 2010 warned that the United States was slipping toward socialism. But rather than taking the mature and diplomatic path and respecting Walesa’s right to have a differing perspective, Obama chose to shun his lifetime of achievements.

Congratulating Walesa on his Nobel Prize in 1983, President Ronald Reagan said: “For too long, the Polish government has tried to make Lech Walesa a non-person and destroy the free trade-union movement that he helped to create in Poland. But no government can destroy the hopes that burn in the hearts of a people. The people of Poland have shown in their support of Solidarity, just as they showed in their support of His Holiness Pope John Paul II during his visit to Poland, that the government of that nation cannot make Lech Walesa a non-person, and they can’t turn his ideas into non-ideas.”

The White House should not treat President Walesa as a non-person, and they cannot turn his ideas into non-ideas.

D-Day – June 6, 1944 – the United States Army
160,000 troops landed on the Normandy coast of France in the largest invasion force in history, involving 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft along a 50-mile stretch of heavily fortified beaches.

It was a major turning point in World War II.

Supreme Allied Commander General Dwight Eisenhower issued the order which sent nearly 100,000 Allied troops marching across Europe to defeat Hitler’s National Socialist Workers Party:

General Eisenhower’s speech on the D-Day and the landing at Normandy

“You are about to embark upon a great crusade…The eyes of the world are upon you.

The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you…

You will bring about…the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe…

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened, he will fight savagely…

And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.”

President Franklin Roosevelt stated JUNE 6, 1944:

“My fellow Americans: Last night, when I spoke with you about the fall of Rome, I knew at that moment that troops of the United States and our allies were crossing the Channel in another and greater operation…

I ask you to join with me in prayer:

Almighty God, Our sons, pride of our Nation, this day have set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our republic, our religion, and our civilization..

Give strength to their arms, stoutness to their hearts, steadfastness in their faith. They will need Thy blessings. Their road will be long and hard.

For the enemy is strong. He may hurl back our forces…

We know that by Thy grace, and by the righteousness of our cause, our sons will triumph…

Some will never return. Embrace these, Father, and receive them, Thy heroic servants, into Thy kingdom.”

Over 9,000 Allied soldiers were killed or wounded in the Normandy invasion.

FDR concluded:

“Help us, Almighty God, to rededicate ourselves in renewed faith in Thee in this hour of great sacrifice…

I ask that our people devote themselves in a continuance of prayer. As we rise to each new day, and again when each day is spent, let words of prayer be on our lips, invoking Thy help to our efforts.

Give us strength…and, O Lord, give us Faith. Give us Faith in Thee…With Thy blessing, we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy…

And a peace that will let all of men live in freedom, reaping the just rewards of their honest toil. Thy will be done, Almighty God. Amen.”

Five years into World War II, the future of Europe hangs in the balance, as 34,000 US soldiers embark on a mission to launch the biggest attack ever from sea. This fascinating documentary, interviews the soldiers who fought at Omaha, recalling their experiences as they approached the shore line under intense cross fire. Using CGI graphics to recreate and illustrate what happened on D Day, the programme also explores the weaponry used in the first wave of the invasion. Of the 1450 soldiers to arrive in the first wave that day, it is estimated that over one third of these men were casualties within the first hour. ‘Surviving D Day’ graphically details one of the biggest turning points in modern history, and tells the gripping story of the brave soldiers that gave their lives to liberate Western Europe.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), despite America’s dubious history of using the population as a test tube for all sorts of crazy things, plans to release what it claims is a (harmless bacteria?) in the Boston subway system this year as a way to test biological sensors, and at least some folks think it may be the start of a bio-terror pandemic with sinister implications.

In an early May report, CBS News/Boston said federal officials “test the subway sensors by releasing dead bacteria called B-subtilis. They say it is used in food supplements, has been rigorously tested and has no adverse health effects for low exposure in healthy people.”

SEE:Bacillus subtilis, known also as the hay bacillus or grass bacillus

The unknown variable here, then, is what sort of an effect will this bacteria have on unhealthy people – will they be able to handle it? Will it make them sicker?

READ DHS Test Summary

According to the CBS News report, the test will be conducted in Cambridge and Somerville during off peak hours sometime this summer; DHS held a public hearing on May 16 at the Cambridge YMCA in Central Square, to allow the public to ask questions and voice concerns over the test.

Later in the month, Boston mass transit police hailed the test as forward-thinking and said it was a proactive, rather than reactive, measure.

* Dangerous, dubious, yes – but sinister?

“The overall goal of bio-terror propaganda is to convince America and the world that it is on the precipice of a bio-terror induced pandemic,” writes one blogger on a site called TrutherNews. “Bio-terror propaganda is currently at an all-time high and confirms that an upcoming bio-terror attack is in the cards and may be played in a last ditch effort to regain political, economic and military control of society.

While that may be a little paranoid, there’s no question the government has conducted tests of bio-weapons for decades, and is intending to continue them, based on what DHS has planned for the subways of Boston.

Back in 1992, in his speech to the Republican National Convention, Pat Buchanan railed against the “environmental extremists who put birds and rats and insects ahead of families, workers, and jobs.”

This was widely seen as an unfair caricature of liberal environmental policy in 1992. In 2012, it’s practically a bloodless statement of fact.

The Obama administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has, in fact, been doing its best to validate this description, either through policy or highly revealing slips of the tongue. The most recent of the slips comes from EPA Region 1 Administrator Curt Spalding, who was captured in a video released by the office of Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK) telling an audience at Yale University the following:

But know right now, we are, we are struggling. We are struggling because we are trying to do our jobs. Lisa Jackson has put forth a very powerful message to the country. Just two days ago, the decision on greenhouse gas performance standard and saying basically gas plants are the performance standard which means if you want to build a coal plant you got a big problem. That was a huge decision. You can’t imagine how tough that was. Because you got to remember if you go to West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and all those places, you have coal communities who depend on coal. And to say that we just think those communities should just go away, we can’t do that. But she had to do what the law and policy suggested. And it’s painful. It’s painful every step of the way.

From Spalding’s own mouth:

To Spalding’s credit, he at least sounds regretful that the EPA (according to him) absolutely has to drive an entire industry into the ground for no apparent reason. Nevertheless, this video will do nothing to assuage the image of President Obama as an essentially anti-coal President who is using his EPA to try to strangle the industry – an image that has yielded political humiliation for the President in Appalachia, where coal is one of the leading sources of employment.

One almost feels sorry for President Obama’s sake that “birds and rats and insects” can’t vote…at least, not outside Chicago.

The video is from a longer YouTube video posted by Beyond Pesticides Working Effectively with EPA (Curt Spalding)

PHOENIX –

A burned SUV found in the desert 35 miles south of Phoenix over the weekend is registered to a missing Tempe family.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office says that Tempe police contacted them late Monday to tell them about a husband and wife and their three children — ages 16, 14, and 7 — who had been missing.

A family acquaintance called police after not being able to contact the Butwin family. That person became concerned after receiving a note from James Butwin with instructions on how to operate his construction business without him.

Tempe Police arrived and discovered “suspicious and concerning evidence inside their home,” which is in the 9300 block of S. Kenneth Place, a nice neighborhood in Tempe.

The Butwins were not there and their vehicle, a Ford SUV, was missing. Police began investigating the family’s disappearance as a murder-suicide.

Turns out James and Yafit Butwin were going through a bitter divorce and were having financial difficulties. James Butwin was also struggling with a recurring brain tumor.

A banner welcomes Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to the 2012 Bilderberg conference. Photograph: Hannah Borno for the Guardian

Another conference over. Charlie Skelton talks to some of the 800 activists outside the gates to find out what they learned

What a Bilderberg it’s been. Big names, big money, big decisions, big crowds. Somewhere around 800 activists outside the gates (up from about a dozen in 2009), and inside? Well, here’s what we learned.

A Mitt Romney attendance?

Four eyewitnesses on the hotel staff told me Willard Mitt Romney was here at Bilderberg 2012. My four eyewitnesses place him inside. That’s one more than Woodward and Bernstein used. Romney’s office initially refused to confirm or deny his attendance as Bilderberg is “not public”. They later said it was not him.

So, was he being crowned, or singing for his supper?
Will Mitt Romney follow in the august footsteps of Clinton, Cameron and Blair to have attended Bilderberg and then shortly become leader? Four years ago, Senator Obama shook off his press detail and nipped (many think) into Bilderberg. This exact same hotel.

Did Romney have to get down on one knee in front of David Rockefeller? This sounds flippant, but it’s a serious question: has Bilderberg switched allegiance? Are they going to toss away Obama after just one term?

I put this question to author and Bilderberg expert Webster Tarpley. Is Wall Street going to throw its chips in with Romney? “I think there’s a frisson that’s gone through the ruling class against Obama,” he says. The leak we had from the flirty hotel staffer corroborated this. “They don’t seem to like Obama very much,” he said.

Tarpley’s conclusion is this: “They want Romney and Mitch Daniels, who will run together as moderate rightists.” Governor Daniels of Indiana was on the official list.

~ Snippet:

* The official list is nonsense: You won’t see the names Mitt Romney or Bill Gates on the officially released Final List of Participants because, well, the list is a nonsense. It’s nothing like a complete list of people who attend Bilderberg. It’s a smokescreen, a bit of spin. So can we all, please, stop repeating it as gospel?

* Attending Bilderberg 2012 as an ‘international’ participant was Bassma Kodmani.

So who is Bassma Kodmani? The answer to that question is also the answer to the question: what the hell is happening in Syria? This is where it gets interesting (and worrying) for Bilderberg followers.

Kodmani was at Bilderberg in 2008, the last time it was here in Chantilly. She is a member of the European Council on foreign relations – its parent group, the council on foreign relations, is a sort of über lobby group, a couple of rungs down from Bilderberg, but still hugely powerful.

There’s a lot of CFR/Bilderberg crossover. Honorary chairman of both is David Rockefeller; co-chairman of the CFR is Robert Rubin (he was here); and on the CFR’s board of directors are Fouad Ajami and Henry Kravis, both at Bilderberg 2012.

The Guardian has always been spot on reporting on Bilderberg since 1999
