Tens of thousands of Alabama businesses have missed a deadline set by the state’s strict immigration law to register with a federal database used to verify the citizenship status of job applicants, according to registration numbers.

Some companies said they didn’t know about the requirement that they use to check on new employees, or didn’t think it applied to them. Others rushed to fill out the Internet-based registration in the days before the April 1 deadline.

Failing to register doesn’t result by itself in charges or fines, but using the system affords employers legal protection in certain cases if they are found to employ illegal immigrants. State officials and industry groups are urging more employers to complete the free registration.

“Right now we’re not penalizing businesses. We’re trying to help them, to be a safe harbor,” said Katheryn Kennedy, a spokeswoman for the Alabama Department of Homeland Security.

The immigration crackdown signed into law last year gave every Alabama employer or business entity until the start of this month to enroll in E-Verify, which is run by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Businesses also are required to begin using the system to check immigration status.

Companies that hire illegal immigrants face penalties including the loss of their business license. To encourage registration, businesses have legal protection if they screened a worker with E-Verify and the person checked out OK but was later determined to be living in the country illegally.

Citizenship and Immigration Services said only 18,137 companies had enrolled in the E-Verify system by Monday, a fraction of the total of employers in the state. There was a late surge of about 4,000 registrations last week, said Bill Wright, a spokesman for the agency in Washington.

The Alabama Department of Revenue said last year’s tax returns showed there were 368,613 companies doing business in the state, and that doesn’t include public employers like city or county governments. Gov. Robert Bentley’s office said the state Department of Industrial Relations counts only 85,000 companies with employees in the state. Some of the discrepancy could be explained by companies doing business in the state with employees who are based elsewhere.

In divide and conquer fashion, President Obama has recently launched blistering and some have said unprecedented attacks against the following perceived enemies… the Supreme Court, Rep. Paul Ryan, American oil and gas companies, Wall St traders, American insurance companies, families making over $250K per year, and those who question man-made global warming. These attacks have grown in intensity and are a far cry from the hope and change he promised four years ago. Is the President unable to withstand criticism? Does he feel above being criticized? Or is this a calculated election year strategy to divide and distract Americans?

Highlights of President Obama’s remarks and answered questions at the Associated Press luncheon during the ASNE Convention today:

“The income of the top 1% has grown by more than 275% over the last few decades to an average of $1.3 million a year. But prosperity sure didn’t trickle down. Instead, during the last decade we had the slowest job growth in half a century.”

On the Republican Budget: “Instead of moderating their views even slightly, the Republicans running Congress right now have doubled down and proposed a budget so far to the right it makes the Contract with America look like the New Deal.”

“The Republicans in Congress refuse to list a single tax loophole they are willing to close. Not one. And by the way, there is no way to get even close to $4.6 trillion in saving without dramatically reducing all kinds of tax breaks that go to middle class families.”

On the Republican Budget: This congressional Republican budget is something different altogether. It is a Trojan Horse disguised as deficit reduction plans. It is really an attempt to impose a radical vision on our country. It is thinly veiled social Darwinism. It is antithetical to our entire history as a land of opportunity and upward mobility for everybody who’s willing to work for it.

On the Buffett Rule: In a few weeks there will be a vote on what we call The Buffett Rule – simple concept – if you make more than a million dollars a year, not if you have a million dollars, if you make m roe than a million dollars annually then you should pay at least the same percentage of your income in taxes as middle class families do.

On the Health Care Mandate: There is a reason why there is a little bit of confusion in the Republican primary about health care and the individual mandate since it originated as a conservative idea to preserve the private marketplace in health care while still assuring that everybody got coverage in contrast to a single payer plan.

APRIL 2, 2012: OBAMA’S REMARKS DURING A JOINT PRESS CONFERENCE WITH PM STEPHEN HARPER OF CANADA MEXICAN PRES. CALDERON

OBAMA SLAMS ‘ACTIVIST’ SUPREME COURT, CALLS THEM ‘AN UNELECTED GROUP OF PEOPLE’:

During the president’s joint press conference in the Rose Garden with Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada and President Felipe Calderon of Mexico, President Barack Obama said Monday he was “confident” the U.S. Supreme Court would uphold his health care law. Here are a few more statements he made from the news conference:

Economy is getting stronger

Obama: Today we focused on our highest priority, creating jobs and opportunity for our people. In the United States, our businesses have created nearly four million new jobs. Confidence is up and the economy is getting stronger but with lots of folks still struggling to find work and pay the bills, we are doing everything we can to speed up the recovery and that includes boosting trade with our two largest economic partners.

Increased exports a priority

Obama: As President I’ve made it a priority to increase our exports and I’m pleased that our exports to Canada and Mexico are growing faster than our exports to the rest of the world. In fact last year, trade in goods with our two neighbors surpassed $1 trillion for the first time ever. This trade supports some 2.5 million American jobs and I want more trade supporting even more jobs in the future.

Ending outdated regulations

Obama: I’m pleased to announce that our three nations are launching a new effort to get rid of outdated regulations that stifle job creation. Here in the United States, our efforts to cut red tape and ensure smart regulations will help achieve savings and benefits to businesses, consumers, and our country of more than 100 billion dollars.

Confident Congress upholds healthcare law

Obama: With respect to health care, I actually continue to be confident that the Supreme Court will uphold the law; and the reason is because in accordance with precedent out there, it’s constitutional.

Obama: Ultimately I’m confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress.

Obama Strikes Back At Green Energy Critics…

~ Yah right Barry, what about all your green energy projects going belly up. Wind Power you say? Like Solar Trust? Your Administration’s touted solar firm’. Or Ecotality “is a great example of the stimulus act doing what it was supposed to do,” “ETEC was teetering. It was a company trying very hard to stay in business. This grant has created jobs and put this company back on track.”

eTec was the North American subsidiary of Ecotality, which received $115 million in two stimulus grants (OUR money not Yours BTW!) through the Energy Department to manufacture electric vehicle charging stations. The parent company is now under investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission. Yesterday, Scribe posted a subpoena sent to former eTec CEO Donald Karner in December.

These facts paint the picture a company whose business strategy was intertwined with the politics of “green energy.” As the size and scope of government grows, the beneficiaries are necessarily those with the most and best political connections. Ecotality certainly fits the bill.

…and we all know how many of your companies funded by OUR tax dollars have failed! But this plethora of lies you spout:

…and the very same Justices who you caused to grimace, are now showing you The Supreme Court is the one who is Highest of the USA NOT YOU! Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito frowned and shook his head at you as you LIED!

You Mr. president, make us ill as a nation. Our Nation Under GOD! NOT YOU!

What’s wrong with showing identification when you vote? That’s an egregious civil rights violation if you ask the Obama Administration and liberal groups like the Center for American Progress, and the Advancement Project. So what happens if you show up at the front door of these groups without ID? Find out on this PJTV undercover investigation.

The U.S. military says it’s ready to resume the trial of five Guantanamo Bay prisoners charged with planning and aiding the Sept. 11 attacks.

A Pentagon legal official has signed off on trying them together at the U.S. base in Cuba. That means the military has 30 days from Wednesday to arraign the prisoners on charges that include terrorism and murder. They could get the death penalty if convicted.

Defense lawyers were hoping two men would be tried separately on non-capital charges, arguing the pair are accused of relatively minor roles.

Obama halted the previous trial and wanted them prosecuted in civilian court. Congress opposed the move and the administration was forced to shift it back to Guantanamo.

One of the least explored periods of Barack Obama’s life is the period between his graduation from Columbia University in 1983 and his arrival at Harvard Law School in 1988.

This was a crucial, formative time for the young Obama. It was during these years that Barack Obama, “community organizer,” forged his identity and the relationships that would bring him to the White House. And he did so hand-in-hand with the radical Catholic left in Chicago.

image:Freaking News

Obama’s first job in Chicago began in 1985 with Jerry Kellman, a Saul Alinksy-trained community organizer who continues to work with the radical Catholic left in the Windy City. Kellman was a veteran protestor of the ‘60s–he once joked that he majored in protesting at the University of Wisconsin-Madison before transferring to the progressive Reed College–and wanted to use the “social justice” teachings of the radical Catholic left to co-opt the Church for his Alinskyite project.

Obama’s job was to help Kellman expand his project’s reach into the black churches.

He was paid by these radical Catholic leftists, who in turn had received their money from their parishioners or the larger Catholic church. Obama’s travel documents and expenses were signed and approved by the late Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, a controversial figure in the Catholic church who supported nearly every left-wing movement within it. Though Bernardin was well liked in Chicago, especially by a fawning media anxious to have a Catholic imprimatur on nearly every social issue of the day, Bernardin’s work undermined many Catholic teachings.

~ I can personally attest to the fact, as a Catholic and living in Chicago at the time we were not only aghast at the things Bernardin would say and do, but what we saw happening to our religion in this thug city under the rule of the Daleys for my entire lifetime. My maternal grandfather lived under communism in Poland until he fled at 16. He recognized this town for what it was. He gave up on the politicians and the church. So much of what he voiced has come to pass. Pa always said ‘The Vatican/Archdiocese were the wealthiest ‘corporation’ in the world. ~ JP

~ Snippets…

* Bernardin’s most enduring left-wing project was the Campaign for Human Development (CHD)—which, according to Obama biographer Stanley Kurtz, is “probably the largest funding source for community organizing in the United States.” According to George Weigel, writing in First Things, “the Campaign for Human Development began to support programs of community organizing modeled on or promoted by Saul Alinsky’s Industrial Areas Foundation.

~ This is where it gets most revealing and how snarky it became:

One of those South side Catholic churches was St. Sabina Church, headed by Father Michael Pfleger. Pfleger and Obama knew each other well. Pfleger later backed Obama in his failed 2000 congressional bid against Congressman (Hoodie Wearing Black Panther) Bobbie Rush. (It was only when Pfleger’s controversial comments about Hillary Clinton at Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ surfaced in 2008 that Obama broke from the Reverend Wright and left Trinity.)

* Politics, not religion. That was what Obama learned from Kellman. But he learned something more: how to exploit religion to advance his own politics, always toward getting more and more power, which, after all, is what “community organizing” is all about.

Obama forged his initial Chicago connections through the militant leftist Catholic movement. And it remains his entrée to the Catholic community today; he has been able to avoid charges of anti-Catholicism despite his specific targeting of traditional Catholic institutions simply by praising radical Catholics with whom he once associated.

* Obama needs Catholics—54% of whom voted for him in 2008—to come out for him again, especially in the post-industrial states of Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Obama hopes to manipulate the Catholic population in 2012 the same way he once did in Chicago: by working with liberal Catholics to “community organize” the rest of the church, and the nation.

“I’m still organizing,” Obama told Kellman during the health care debate, according to New York Times columnist Jodi Kantor in The Obamas. The message was clear to everyone but Kantor: Kellman, who had begun his radical career at the 1968 convention in Chicago and had a speaking slot at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, had trained this President.

Kellman, who had learned Alinskyite tactics at a school headed by none other than Saul Alinsky himself, was hearing form his star pupil that he had not forgotten the master’s lessons. And Obama hasn’t forgotten his master’s lessons on how to exploit the Catholic community, either, as we shall see in subsequent posts.
