Jones made the comments in Los Angeles ahead of his appearance at an “All in for the 99%” training event, saying Occupy “disrupted the narrative” as both parties “barreling toward more austerity.”
“[The] Occupy movement pretty much saved the entire country from destruction,” Jones said in an interview posted online. “Both political parties were barreling toward more austerity, more cutbacks, more pain for the people and more — basically both political parties had managed to converge on this idea of basically no rules for the rich, no rights for the poor, no middle class to speak of. That was basically the agenda, the question was just how much pain how fast.”
Three day march to Crete ~ A small group of protesters are marching from Chicago to Crete, Ill., where U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has proposed creating a new detention facility.
Marching through Harvey ( Abel Uribe, Chicago Tribune / March 31, 2012 ) A small group of immigrants and supporters walk through Harvey, Ill. on the second day of their three day march from the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago to Crete, Ill. They are marching in opposition to a detention center planned by Immigration and Custom Enforcement in the village of Crete.
About 40 people started out on a three-day march Friday from Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood to Crete, a 40-mile trek that’s part of rising opposition to federal plans to build an immigration detention center in the far south suburb.
Last week, the state Senate voted 34-17 to approve legislation that would prohibit privately owned detention centers from being built in Illinois, a measure directly aimed at the proposed Crete facility. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Antonio Munoz, D-Chicago, next goes to a vote in the House.
The proposed 788-bed facility is part of an overhaul of how people who are in the country illegally will be detained. Immigration advocates pushed for more humane conditions after abuses were documented in government jails contracted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Built and operated by Corrections Corporation of America, the center in Crete would include a law library, computers, TVs, two gymnasiums and a cafeteria with “ethnically based” food, according to documents obtained by the Tribune.
~ Opining: Is this not a country club compared to where they fled from? I want a reservation! I LOVE Spanish food. No worries. Be Taken care of by Uncle Sam? Win!
Obama administration’s new standards for treating illegal aliens make their detention centers resemble recreational facilities rather than prisons, Republicans complain.
“Under this administration, detention looks more like recess,” House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith, R-Texas, said on Wednesday.
Smith spoke at a hearing of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Policy Enforcement called “Holiday on ICE” — mockingly using the acronym of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.
“The Hunger Games” wasn’t the only film to hit box office paydirt this past weekend. Although it only opened in 390 theaters, the anti-abortion drama “October Baby,” starring John Schneider, earned the second-highest-per-screen average, bringing in almost $2 million in ticket sales.
“I was shattered when I first learned about the story. I was moved and mesmerized. I wasn’t an activist, I was just someone who was shattered by the truth,” director Jon Erwin told FOX411’s Pop Tarts. “Here is our little film, small budget, in the top ten (at the box office). We are thrilled, blown away.”
“This film couldn’t find a home, no studio wanted to touch it. It was considered too controversial,” Erwin continued. “There was a real moment of despair at one point, the film wasn’t finished and nobody would take a look at it. But every time we screened it, it attracted such intense emotional reactions. So we had to raise the money ourselves, and the release process took much longer than we wanted.”
According to Dr. Ted Baehr, founder of the Christian movie site Movieguide.org, the success of “October Baby” can be attributed to a strong Christian and moral world view that touched the hearts of those who saw it. He says it’s important for more audiences to have the chance to see it, too.
“All who see it should be transformed, so considering the importance of the message, everyone should see it,” he said. “It needs more theatrical exposure.”
Erwin said they are hoping for a wider release next month, and communities are so desperate to see the film they are forming “action squads” in which Christian schools, churches and residents are coming together and agreeing to buy a certain amount of tickets to cover costs.
“We don’t have the deep pockets and resources that big studios have,” Erwin added. “So we have to take the long approach. But people are really getting behind this and rallying. People identify with it, that’s why the film worked.”
In 2008, candidate Obama called Bill Ayers an “English Professor” who he knows and runs into in his neighborhood. He condemned “despicable acts” Ayers committed when Obama was “eight years old.”
~ First we had NBC Distort reporting and now…
But now Alex Witt reveals the truth:
Note how other’s in report attempt to diminish the findings…
ABC News boldly proclaimed police surveillance video of George Zimmerman being taken into the Sanford police station the night Trayvon Martin was killed showed no blood or bruises from an alleged physical encounter Zimmerman claimed to have had with 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
- image thanks to Jim Hoft aka Gateway Pundit
A new High Definition clip from the same video appears to make clear that Zimmerman had a gash or wound of some kind on the back of his head. That would be totally consistent with his version of events on the night in question and opposite the impression ABC News gave its viewers.
Big Journalism called the ABC video-based report reckless and revealing of nothing after it first aired. ABC’s presumed ability to enhance and review video before airing only makes their report all the more outrageous. Given analysis by Breitbart Media and the Daily Caller already performed, the ABC video appeared to be inconclusive, at best.
The new High Defintion clip from the police video Breitbart TV is releasing [see below] means that any determination beyond that the video is inconclusive is shoddy, if not intentionally unethical, journalism. To date, ABC has offered no official response to the broad and convincing criticism of the disingenuous nature of their aired report.
~ Before you even start video look @ the image of George’s head, it is not little! @ 0:09 you see officer looking at it off center slightly to the right. He was tended to by paramedics ONE HOUR prior to this video. Also note his ‘red’ jacket which the 2nd witness said ‘ the guy with the red ‘shirt’ was laying on the ground being beaten.
“Then they asked him if he saw what the man was wearing. They gave him a multiple choice question and gave him three colors. He said, ‘I think it was red.’” Zimmerman, 28, was wearing a red and black jacket. Trayvon, 17, was wearing a grey hoodie.
