(AP) The maker of the widely prescribed cancer drug Avastin is warning doctors and patients about counterfeit vials of the product that have been distributed in the U.S.
Roche’s Genentech unit said Tuesday that the fake products do not contain the key ingredient in Avastin, which is used to treat cancers of the colon, lung, kidney and brain. The drug is a huge money-maker for Roche, generating about $6 billion a year.
A spokeswoman said the counterfeit drug has been distributed to health care facilities in the U.S., though it’s unclear how many vials are in circulation or where they may be concentrated. The company is working with the Food and Drug Administration to track down the counterfeit vials and analyze their contents.
“We’re still analyzing what it is, we know it doesn’t contain the active ingredient in Avastin,” said Genentech spokeswoman Charlotte Arnold.
Avastin is administered in doctor’s offices and hospitals.
“It’s an infused medicine and not something a patient would have in their hands, so it’s really health care providers who should be on the lookout,” Arnold said.

The counterfeit products do not have “Genentech” printed on their packaging, which appears on all FDA-approved cartons and vials of the drug. Additionally, legitimate Avastin contains a six-digit lot number with no letters. All the packaging text should be in English.
The company believes drugs labeled with the following lot numbers may be fake: B86017, B6011 and B6010.
In a related action, the FDA said late Tuesday it has contacted 19 medical practices that may have purchased unapproved drugs, including counterfeit Avastin, from a company called Quality Specialty Products. The foreign supply company may also do business as Montana Health Care Solutions, the agency said.
Avastin works by choking off the blood supply that feeds tumors. It was the first drug of its kind approved by the FDA.
~ Many have gone months using the counterfeit which does not help at all.
Dr. Siegel weighs in on counterfeit medications:
Drug contamination and counterfeiting has become a growing concern for U.S. pharmaceutical companies as they have increasingly moved operations offshore. About 80 percent of the active ingredients used in U.S. prescription drugs are now manufactured overseas, according to congressional investigators.
I looked at my own resources to back up the need for a watchful eye:

My email has been inundated since last Friday about FNC going the way of Soros. First GB gets fired, now the Judge loses HIS show! If I neglect to credit the tons of people who have sent me links, forgive me. I do know the Judge is beloved by us and the best Constitutional Attorney there is. Although for now, they are keeping him on as a ‘guest’, I am slowly getting disgusted with FNC. But hey, isn’t that what Soros wants? The Judge’s ratings were at the top, there is no other explanation for him losing his show, except for Soros and the powers that be at FOX! ~ JP
Judge Napolitano. How to get fired from Fox Business in under 5 mins:
The Judge said on his facebook page the final show is Feb 13th 8:00 PM …

Notice the TIMING of the cancellation. Such a popular show would never be cancelled, especially with NO replacement. This was POLITICAL. JN was cancelled flat because the monied elite manipulating our system does NOT like his message. They want him and his anti-Iran war, anti-Fed money manipulation and anti-crony capitalist message to GO AWAY. So the Judge is out and the AP has released a wave of scare stories to get us into Iran. THAT’S HOW IT IS DONE IN OUR CORRUPT DEMOCRACY. -TulliusVII
BTW his show his being replaced with reruns!
Fox Cancels Popular Show for Supporting Ron Paul:
Many have long wondered what the consequences would be for openly supporting Ron Paul on Fox news, and now we have our answer: cancellation. Fox business News recently cancelled Judge Napolitano’s Freedom Watch for his support of Ron Paul, criticism of the NDAA, and his anti-war stance. Fox said they plan on airing re-runs from shows aired earlier in the day in its place.
I held off on this story because it was so Fresh that any search turned up nothing but the following on Feb. 9, 2012:
NEW YORK, Feb 09, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) — FOX Business Network (FBN) will debut a new primetime schedule featuring encore presentations of the channel’s top post-market programs, announced Kevin Magee, Executive Vice President of the network. Starting February 20th at 8 PM/ET, viewers will find additional airings of The Willis Report (5PM & 8PM/ET), Cavuto (6PM & 9PM/ET) and Lou Dobbs Tonight (7PM & 10PM/ET). The new lineup will replace FreedomWatch with Judge Andrew Napolitano, Power & Money with David Asman and Follow the Money with Eric Bolling.
Currently one of the leading judicial analysts on television, Judge Napolitano will continue his role on both FOX Business and FOX News, providing key legal insights surrounding the growing intersection between Washington and Wall Street. In addition to co-hosting The Five on FNC, Eric Bolling will also lend his unparalleled expertise on oil and energy stemming from more than 20 years on the trading floor to both networks as a commodities contributor. David Asman will maintain his role as co-anchor of After the Bell (4PM/ET) with Liz Claman on FBN, as well as expand upon his platform as a multinational economic affairs expert to provide commentary on the globalization of the business world
At the time information was scant and I could not confirm he was in fact Fired. But after all the emails with links, you do not have to be a rocket scientist to know the Judge was squelched from Freedom. Because of his Beliefs, viewpoint and support of Ron Paul.
Judge Andrew Napolitano gives his Final “The Plain Truth” on the last episode of Freedom Watch 2/13/12
This is from Pamm:
Bad news, freedom fighters! Judge Andrew Napolitano’s Freedom Watch, the best damned daily libertarian news & argument show in the history of television (name a better one!), has gotten the axe from Fox Business Network.
Freedom Watch was a great friend to Reason, of course, but more importantly to anyone worried about the size and growth of government in all aspects of our lives. And despite (or maybe because of?) the show’s stronger-than-usual ideological/philosophical content, the judge knew (and knows!) how to run a perfectly respectful debate with people who disagree strongly with him, which is a rarity in the cable world. Television needs more spaces like that.
This website is excellent and has a lot of articles about the Judge.
How much are we going to stand for from FOX?! They need to be bombed with phone calls ( 1-888-369-4762 ) . Tell them they have NO right to put out the light for Freedom. They are taking away Andrew’s FREEDOM of Speech! They are stripping him of FREEDOM of the press.
Many of you are not happy with the cancellation of FreedomWatch, and you have sent emails to my Fox colleagues expressing that unhappiness. In television, shows are cancelled all the time. Two of my former shows have been cancelled, and after each cancellation, Fox has rewarded me with more and better work. This cancellation–along with others that accompanied it–was the result of a business judgment here, and is completely unrelated to the FreedomWatch message. It would make a world of a difference for all of us, if you would KINDLY STOP SENDING EMAILS TO FOX.
I am well. Your values are strong. I will continue to articulate those values here at Fox. But the emails many of you are sending are unfairly interfering with my work and that of my colleagues here. The emails even violate our values because they interfere with the use of private property. I have accepted the cancellation decision with good cheer and a sense of gearing up for the future. You should as well.
As a favor to me, and as I have asked this past weekend, PLEASE STOP SENDING EMAILS TO MY COLLEAGUES AT FOX ABOUT THE CANCELLATION OF FreedomWatch; and please stop NOW.
All the best, apn.
and from 2/10:
So many of you no doubt have heard, FreedomWatch will end next week. The good folks who own these studios and these cameras have other uses for them. We have had a marvelous ride together, and I know from the thousands of emails that have come our way, that you have been faithful to the message of freedom and to your Night Watchman as its temporary messenger. Your Night Watchman is not going anywhere. I will be all over the Fox News Channel, just as I was before FreedomWatch, and I might even have some surprises in store for you; not the least of which will be a grand finale sometime next week. The angels and the saints who close doors also open them.
Now, I LOVE this saying and it is part of my daily motivations. So I close with leaving it up to you if you contact FOX. I already did before seeing Andrew’s FB page. ~ JP
~ Great Kudos to Char, Bill and Pamm for following this early on and so well! Thank You!
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – Trapped inmates screamed from their cells as a fire swept through a Honduran prison, killing at least 300 inmates, authorities said Wednesday.
Some 475 people escaped from the prison in the town of Comayagua and 356 are missing and presumed dead, said Hector Ivan Mejia, a spokesman for the Honduras Security Ministry. He said 21 people had been injured.
Dozens were trapped behind bars as prison authorities tried to find the keys, officials said.
Comayagua fire department spokesman Josue Garcia described the blaze as “hellish,” saying he saw “horrific” scenes while trying to put out the fire, saying inmates rioted in attempts to escape. He said “some 100 prisoners were burned to death or suffocated in their cells.”
“We couldn’t get them out because we didn’t have the keys and couldn’t find the guards who had them,” Garcia said.
Officials are investigating whether the fire was triggered by rioting prisoners or by an electrical short-circuit, said Danilo Orellana, head of the national prison system.
It may be the offseason for the NFL, but the pressure is still on Tim Tebow.
Airman Jamie Walden has asked Tebow to be her date to a military ball in Shreveport, La., in April, and the YouTube of her invitation already has been viewed about 125,000 times.
She is absolutely adorable!
To add to the team’s accomplishments, Airman 1st Class Jamie Walden, 2nd Operations Support Squadron aviation resource management apprentice, brought home an Airman of the Month award for September 2010. To earn the award she participated in the Airmen Against Drunk Driving program, Relay for Life and Operation Warm Heart among several other activities.
“I wouldn’t have accomplished what I did last year without the support of my peers,” said Walden. “The people in my office are go-getters and watching them succeed makes me want to succeed. I’m constantly feeding off of their excitement and motivation.”
