Police arrest 26-year-old Massachusetts man for allegedly plotting to blow up the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol using a large radio-controlled aircraft, like the one shown left, and filling it with explosives.
BOSTON – A 26-year-old Massachusetts man has been arrested and accused of plotting to destroy the Pentagon and U.S. Capitol with large remote-controlled aircraft filled with explosives.
Rezwan Ferdaus of Ashland was arrested Wednesday in Framingham when undercover federal agents delivered materials he’d requested for his alleged plan, including grenades, six machine guns and what Ferdaus believed was C-4 explosive.
Ferdaus, a U.S. citizen and Northeastern University graduate, was scheduled to make an initial appearance in federal court in Worcester on Wednesday afternoon.
A message for comment was left for his attorney, Catherine Byrne.
According to the federal affidavit, Ferdaus began planning “jihad” against the U.S. in early 2010. He allegedly believed he would have a large psychological impact by killing Americans, who he described as “enemies of Allah.”
Latma is an Israeli media criticism website that also produces a weekly satirical news show.
The website was created in 2008 by a group of journalists claiming that “the only way to improve the Public discourse is exposing the true face of the news and journalism in whole”. According to the site, the majority of the Israeli media, and especially the satire that is presented in them, lean to the political left. The site contains criticism about media outlets, reporters and journalists. The criticism is mostly directed towards politically biased articles.
For twenty years – long before 9/11 – the danger of terrorists armed with surface to air missiles shooting at passenger planes has been the secret fear of many top political leaders. In the late 90s, a terrorist network was nabbed trying to bring them into Newark Airport, but the airline industry and the government have done nothing to equip passenger airplanes with any defense against these always deadly missiles.
Now Barack Obama has committed the ultimate sin: He has let 20,000 surface-to-air missiles escape from military depots in Libya. According to ABC News “U.S. officials had once thought there was little chance that terrorists could get their hands on many of the portable surface-to-air missiles that can bring down a commercial jet liner. But now that calculation is out the window, with officials at a recent secret White House meeting reporting that thousands of them have gone missing in Libya.” An estimated 20,000 of these “portable, heat-seeking missiles have gone missing from unguarded Army weapons warehouses.”
Senator Barbara Boxer, of the Senate’s Commerce, Energy, and Transportation Committee said that “matching up a terrorist with a shoulder-fired missile, that’s our worst nightmare.
And now, thanks to Obama’s carelessness and his unnecessary decision to intervene in Libya, it may be our future reality.
ABC News describes the missing missiles as “four to six-feet long and Russian-made, [they] can weight just 55 pounds with launcher.” They are accurate within a range of more than two miles. That a terrorist could sit on a boat off JFK airport and shoot down a passenger plane as it ascends could now be a real possibility.
U.S. fears the surface-to-air missiles could be used to target passenger planes:
In the Iraq War, during the run-up to the 2004 election, there were reports of unguarded US military depots from which insurgents allegedly stole thousands of explosives. The story broke in the week before the election and Kerry took down all his other ads and focused on this issue, first reported in the New York Times. By Election Day, it was proven that the report was bogus, adding to Kerry’s woes. Now, faced with this massive blunder and security threat, we hear nothing but the sounds of silence from any of the mainstream media except, to its immense credit, ABC News.
We need to assign a top priority to hunting down these missiles. In Afghanistan, our troops jumped through hoops to corral all the Stinger Missiles left over from the Russian War. This potential leak of these dangerous weapons is vastly more threatening. Obama needs to face this issue squarely and publicly. And we all need to learn the cost we may pay from having elected a rank amateur as president.
Circumstances: Aliayah was last seen at home on September 24, 2011. Her ears are pierced and she is missing her top four front teeth. Aliayah was last seen wearing purple Dora pajama bottoms, a pink princess sweatshirt, and no shoes.
Weston , Lewis County , West Virginia
A massive search is underway in Lewis County, West Virginia for a missing toddler.
Hundreds of volunteers, police, and rescue workers have been searching for Aliayah Lunsford, 3, since Saturday afternoon, but still, there is no sign of the little girl.
“We’re doing the best that we can. I mean, all we can do is hope and pray. I mean, that’s it,” says her cousin, Michelle Farnsworth.
Now into day three of the search, police say they are no closer to finding her.
“We’ve had K9’s on the ground, we’ve got cadaver dogs in the water. We’ve got divers in the water, the neighborhood has been canvassed every single day. There are no clues leading us in any direction,” explains lead investigator Sgt. Mike Posey of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department.
Aliayah disappeared from her Bendale home Saturday morning. Her mother, Lena Lunsford, says Aliayah was sick, she checked on her around 6:30 a.m., and came back around 9:30 a.m. That’s when she discovered she was missing.
Police got the call for help about two hours later, and were there within minutes.
“We aren’t ruling out anything,” says Posey.
More than 400 people have helped local police, including the FBI, search the area around the Dennison Street home. They’ve also checked registered sex offenders living in and around Weston.
“Checking everything that they can check. You know, under bushes and trash cans, and stuff like dumpsters,” says CERT instructor Linda Cornell.
The story has even gone national, and caught the attention of Headline News’ Nancy Grace.
At one point, a K9 picked up a scent that ended in the West Fork River, just beside the home, but still there was nothing found.
“Aliayah wouldn’t just walk off. I mean she really wouldn’t. I mean, she loves her family and we love her back,” says her aunt, Wendy Swiger.
Police spent much of Monday questioning the girl’s family.
“We just want her home,” said her mother, Lena, to WDTV-TV.
Police say her mother has a criminal history, and served time for forgery, but will not elaborate if any of the family is considered a suspect.
“This search will last until she is found,” says Posey.
Aliayah is about 3 feet tall, weighs about 30 pounds, and has long brown hair, and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing purple Dora the Explorer pajama bottoms and a pink sweatshirt. She is missing her top four front teeth.

Spanish Civil Guards arrested five Algerian men in Northern Spain, on suspicion of providing financial and logistical support for al-Qaida, CNN reports. It’s the latest series of arrests in Spain’s campaign to root out terrorism from its territory.
The five suspects were apprehended in near simultaneous raids across Spain’s Navarre and Basque Land provinces, an area already suffering from domestic terrorism by Basque separatists. They are believed to have supported “terrorist groups that operate in the Algerian area of the Maghreb, specifically al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb” (AQIM), a Spanish ministry statement claimed. The group, aged 36 to 49, is also suspected of linking up with Islamist support groups in Italy, France, and Switzerland.
Al-Qaida and its subsidiaries have been active on Spanish territory for some time. Since the 2004 Madrid train bombings, which killed 191 people and injured more than 1,800 others, Spanish police have picked up more than 400 suspected al-Qaida militants or collaborators. This included last week’s arrest of a Cuban man on the country’s Mallorca Island, who was also involved in recruiting and indoctrination. Most Islamist terrorist suspects in Spain have been of Arab origin, but converts from Latin American countries have also participated.
AQIM in particular has exploited large Moroccan and Algerian expatriate communities in Spain, as well as building a network of bases in North Africa’s deserts. For more on AQIM’s support role for al-Qaida, click here.
We have been covering this for a week & it JUST keeps getting worse…
WASHINGTON – Health officials say as many as 16 people have died from possible listeria illnesses traced to Colorado cantaloupes, the deadliest food outbreak in more than a decade.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday that 72 illnesses, including 13 deaths, are linked to the tainted fruit. State and local officials say they are investigating three additional deaths that may be connected.
The death toll released by the CDC Tuesday — including newly confirmed deaths in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Texas — surpassed the number of deaths linked to an outbreak of salmonella in peanuts almost three years ago. Nine people died in that outbreak.
Four people are confirmed dead — with three more deaths under investigation — in the ongoing outbreak of listeria food poisoning from contaminated cantaloupes.
The CDC’s official count has grown to 35 cases in 10 states. In every case where medical records are available, people infected with the outbreak strain of listeria have been hospitalized.
One person in Oklahoma, one in Colorado, and two in New Mexico have died. The Denver Post reports that the New Mexico health department suspects two more deaths are linked to the outbreak. The Springfield, Mo., health department is investigating two more suspected cases. One of those patients has died.
All cases have occurred since Aug. 4. Illnesses since Aug. 31 may not yet have been reported.
People sickened by the outbreak strains of listeria range in age from 35 to 96 with a median age of 81. Most of those who became ill are over 60 or have other risk factors — such as pregnancy or weakened immunity — for serious listeria illness.
The FDA reports that one of the three listeria strains linked to the outbreak has been cultured from Jensen Farms’ Rocky Ford brand cantaloupes from a Denver-area store and from equipment and cantaloupes at the Jensen Farms packing plant.
No other farms, even in the Colorado’s Rocky Ford growing region, have been linked to the outbreak.
Jensen Farms has recalled all cantaloupes shipped from July 29 through Sept. 10 to at least 17 states. Further distribution may have occurred.
The whole cantaloupes may have either of two stickers:
* A green and white sticker that reads: Product of USA — Frontera Produce — Colorado Fresh — Rocky Ford Cantaloupe
* A gray, yellow, and green sticker that reads: Jensen Farms — Sweet Rocky Fords
