The top image, acquired on April 28 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite, shows three tornado tracks through and around the city. The lower image, from April 12, shows the area before the storm.

The tracks are pale brown trails where green trees and plants have been uprooted, leaving disturbed ground. Though faint, the center track runs from southwest of Tuscaloosa, through the gray city, and extends northeast towards Birmingham. Two other tracks run parallel to the center track. The northernmost track lies in an area where the National Weather Service reported a tornado, but no tornado was reported in the vicinity of the more visible southern track. In the southern region, strong winds were reported.

ABC33/40′s James Spann and The Weather Channel’s Hedi Cullem face off in the debate on global warming.

I post this now because I JUST posted one from Alex Jones. It is the screaming ‘green’ meemies & the cries once again our Alabama tornadoes are in fact from Global Warming. This despite the fact it has been proven repeatedly they lied and fudged the facts & truth. Well, we won’t allow that at JUST Piper. We are here to back Alex Jones and James Spann, the Weather Guru up! TWC is still saying it even today, that oh yah, it’s global warming per so-called expert Jim Cantore. The hotshot who was all over MSM during the outbreak. And now here we are four years later & it’s Cantori’s turn to look like a horse’s arse…

NOTE that Senator James Inhofe {Another GOOD James, backs up the Spann Man!

:: James Spann on Glenn Beck ::

Jan 22, 2007

An ABC-TV meteorologist from Birmingham, Alabama speaks with Glen Beck about global warming.

Russ Steele of NC Media Watch describes what I felt perfectly as I was watching the very same report:

I was watching NBC Dateline’s Path of Destruction tonight, a program on the current outbreak of tornadoes with Brian Williams in Alabama. He was discussing the power of tornadoes with Jim Cantore of the Weather Channel. Williams ask Cantore, why are we seeing such powerful storm like we have never seen in a life time, we must be doing something to cause this. Cantore said that is getting warmer and the warming is juicing up the jet-stream, which is producing the stronger tornadoes.

What? I used to admire Jim Cantore, but once NBC bought the Weather Channel I began to question the accuracy of his analysis. He should know that it is the clash of cold air with the warm air coming from the Gulf of Mexico that causes tornado activity. Cold air is an essential element for the creation of tornadoes.

Then I found this bit from April 26, 2009 very enlightening on the typical flip-flop described in Russ Steele assessment ‘once TWC was bought up by NBC:

Based on your 24 years of experience, what are your perceptions of global warming?

Jim Cantore: There is no question that the earth is warming, we know that. The question is if it is progressing at a rate that the earth can not compensate for, that we don’t know: some say “no”, some say “yes” and I’m not ready to go either way. But being out in weather, particularly in rainfall, I’ve been in rainstorms with such pounding rain, it just seems like the rain is coming down harder, particularly in the last 10 years. It’s not science, it’s just my perception of what I’m seeing going on out there.

But no one can every argue with cleaner air, less pollution and garbage, so why not proceed ahead? Changing what we’re doing could also create jobs in this economy. There’s nothing but good in it. What gives a mixed message is when people are trying to bully their position over you for whatever reason.

So it is up to you, but there is no way Cantore can hold a candle to James Spann. In the Battles of ‘The James’, you know who my money is on! Keep the glad rag media TWC, I will stick to ABC 33/40! ~JP

Cantore check this, you don’t even deserve to share the name…

This is the awesome coverage provided by James Span, Jason Simpson, and all the behind-the-scenes members of the ABC33/40 weather team, providing detailed coverage about where exactly this devastating tornado is. No other weather team is able to present the weather with the knowledge of the small details, like nearby businesses, small communities, etc that let people know EXACTLY where the storm is at any given moment.

~ I don’t know what we would do without James Spann and the crew, they are absolutely PRIZE material! Of course I didn’t get to watch this as I normally would, live with ABC 33/40 on during storms, as do many in this viewing area. I am JUST seeing this for the very first time. James is our ‘Superstar’! ~JP

Authorities in the Memphis area fanned out to low-lying neighborhoods Friday to warn residents of 1,089 homes that they are at risk from the coming floodwaters and to urge them to leave, according to city and county officials.

(CNN) — Historic flooding forced the U.S. Coast Guard to shut down commercial traffic on part of the Mississippi River Friday as authorities downstream raced to build and reinforce levees, polish evacuation plans and warn residents to start thinking about getting out.

“When you see the Mississippi River and it’s about two miles wide because it’s lost its borders, it’s sobering,” said Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam.

The Coast Guard closed a five-mile stretch of the river at Caruthersville, Missouri, on Friday to prevent waves generated by passing barges from damaging levees and flood gates along the river, Chief Warrant Officer Lionel Bryant said.

The closure could last as long as eight days, Bryant said.

While other stretches of the river remain open, the closure will block barges loaded with commodities headed for Gulf of Mexico ports. It could have ramifications across the country, Memphis, Tennessee, Mayor A.C. Wharton said.

“When you close the Mississippi River, it affects the economy nationwide,” the mayor of the historic river town said.

He said forecasters have told him parts of the state could be dealing with high water levels until July.

:: FEMA Continues To Monitor Flood Conditions ::

FEMA Urges Residents to Monitor Conditions; Visit Ready.gov for Preparedness and Safety Information

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As the Federal Emergency Management Agency and our federal partners continue to support the response to the severe storms that affected the Southeast last week, we are also continuing to closely monitor the ongoing flood fight along the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, their tributaries and other low-lying areas. Flood conditions will continue to change, and FEMA encourages individuals to follow the directions of local officials. If told to evacuate, leave immediately, follow evacuation routes announced by local officials, and stay away from river banks and streams.

Everyone should get familiar with the terms that are used to identify a flooding hazard and discuss with your family what to do if a flood watch or warning is issued:

Flood Watch: Flooding is possible. Tune in to NOAA Weather Radio, commercial radio, or television for information

Flash Flood Watch: Flash flooding is possible. Be prepared to move to higher ground; listen to NOAA Weather Radio, commercial radio, or television for information.

Flood Warning: Flooding is occurring or will occur soon; if advised to evacuate, do so immediately.

Flash Flood Warning: A flash flood is occurring; seek higher ground on foot immediately.

Weeks after causing an uproar among conservative Islamic groups in Europe, German Playboy’s Editor in Chief is claiming his scantily-clad cover star is not actually a Muslim.

Nude images of the Turkish-born German soap star Sila Sahin sparked outrage from conservative Muslims who called her a “whore” and a “Western slut who has “shamed Muslim womanhood,” according to reports from the London Sun.

The Islamic Community of Germany also reportedly called for a boycott of Sihan’s German soap opera “Good Times, Bad Times.”

But German Playboy Editor in Chief, Florian Boitin, told FOX411 exclusively in an email that his cover model isn’t even a Muslim.

“Sila isn’t Muslim. Her father doesn’t belong to any [religion] and her mother is Christian [sic]. And the Playboy cover with Sila Sahin is not a religious statement,” Boitin told FOX411.
