BRIEF: Freedom Walk set to remember 9-11
Sep 07, 2010 (La Crosse Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) —
Operation Homefront-Wisconsin will mark the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks with a walk through Riverside Park.
The one-mile Freedom Walk will bring together service members, police officers, firefighters and first responders for a public thank you, said Patti Lokken, communications director .
“It is an event to remember those who lost their lives, renew our commitment to freedom and honor service members past and present,” Lokken said.
“We really encourage people to come down and join us for this,” she said. “It’s a very special event like none other.”
The walk starts at 6:15 p.m., with registration beginning at 5 p.m. Participants also can sign-up at www.operationhomefront.net/wisconsin. A program will follow at the bandshell.
The local walk, sponsored by Logistics Health Inc., is one of several nationwide that will remember the tragic events at the Pentagon, the World Trade Cener in New York City and Shanksville, Pa.
“We had our freedom attacked on that day,” Lokken said. “It was such a powerful attack on our freedom, I think it is important to reflect and remember it can be taken away so quickly.”
Claws for a Cause will honor town’s (CA) 9/11 heroes: Bingham and Beamer
Pity the poor lobsters. Once they were happily crawling along the ocean floor off the coast of Maine. But in just a day or two, approximately 3,000 pounds of lobster will be flown across the country to Los Gatos, where they’ll be boiled and served to approximately 1,500 hungry townsfolk.
The sixth annual Claws for a Cause lobster block party is happening Sept. 11 from 5:30 to 10 p.m. at C.B. Hannegan’s, 208 Bachman Ave. In addition to lobster, tri-tip and a variety of side dishes will be served until 8:30 p.m., then the ever-popular Joe Sharino Band performs.
The event is a fundraiser put on by Los Gatos Morning Rotary, in partnership with Hannegan’s, with some of the money raised going to the club’s charitable foundation.
New this year are two $4,000 scholarships that will be given out in honor of Todd Beamer and Mark Bingham, two of the heroes who were aboard United Flight 93 when it was hijacked on Sept. 11, 2001. Beamer is a 1987 Los Gatos High School graduate, and Bingham graduated from LGHS in 1988.
“We’re celebrating our Los Gatos heroes,” said event chairwoman and Morning Rotary member Diana Pleasant. The theme of this year’s event is “Remembering and Honoring the Los Gatos 9/11 Heroes.”
Pleasant and Rotary member Darrell Monda, who dubbed the event a “lobster block party” a number of years ago, have been Claws organizers from the very beginning back in 2005. Together with president Greg Stower and the rest of
the Morning Rotary “Cool Cats,” they anticipate another sellout event that will raise funds for a number of local organizations.
Proceeds from the 2010 Claws event will not only fund the aforementioned scholarships, but will also go to the Los Gatos Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts, the Los Gatos High School Music Boosters and Westmont High School’s Interact Club, all of whom are helping out at Claws. The club also supports Rotary International’s effort to eradicate polio.
Madison (Idaho) firefighters to unveil 9/11 memorial
Standard Journal/Joseph Law Firefighters Reed Rockwell, left, Troyce Miskin and Ellis Johnston smooth the concrete base for the memorial.
REXBURG – As Sept. 11 approaches, Madison firefighters plan a public event to honor those who died in the 2001 terrorist attacks.
The Madison Fire Department is calling the event the Patriot Day Memorial Service, and it will be held at 6 p.m. at the Rexburg Fire Station at 26 N. Center St.
At that time the firefighters will unveil the new Firefighter Memorial, which is now under construction. Madison firefighters are installing the structure.
Efforts are under way to include some remnants of structural steel from the ground zero site in New York City as part of the memorial.
The street in front of the fire station will be blocked off for a retreat of the colors and a ceremony dedicating the memorial.
Madison firefighters plan to make this an annual event, but this first one will be the debut performance of the Madison Fire Department Pipe Brigade.
A special gesture is planned to honor Brady Howell, who grew up in Sugar City and was killed in the terrorist attack on the Pentagon, where he worked as an intern for the Department of the Navy.
The flag that is flown at the fire station on that day will be presented to Carson Howell, representing the Howell family.
“The firefighters started this over a year ago to show their respect to the profession they’re in and the community they serve,” said Fire Chief Corey Child. “They want to show their respect for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice as exemplified by those in public service who gave their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. This memorial is so that we don’t forget the freedoms and pleasures we enjoy and the roots by which they come.”
Child said local public servants have the same kind of dedication.
“We have hometown heroes right here doing heroic things on a daily basis,” he said.
Firefighter Ellis Johnston said he and his colleagues hope the memorial will inspire themselves and others to greater levels of community service.
At the conclusion of the evening’s events, refreshments will be served in the fire station.
Luke’s Gospel– Remember 9/11 and Say No to the Ground Zero Mosque (This guy says it Best! JUST MUST Read…
I don’t believe there should be a mosque next to the Ground Zero memorial site in New York City. The United States is a free, beautiful country that opens its arms to all people, but the fact is that some Muslim thugs hijacked two planes, blew up the Twin Towers, and killed 3,000 innocent people.
I don’t care how anyone tries to spin it; the people behind the mosque are using our kindness as a weakness. You’ll never see the Ku Klux Klan try to put up a building in the heart of Liberty City.
What they really want to do is celebrate the martyrdom of terrorists who blew up the World Trade Center. Screw that. Anybody who is involved with putting that mosque next to Ground Zero should be investigated — from the architects to the imam. The cleric responsible for the whole thing, Feisal Abdul Rauf, has been sued for mortgage fraud, his tenants have complained about bed bugs, and he has overly close ties to local officials in New Jersey.
President Obama was dead-ass wrong when he said he was OK with the $100 million development. He took the middle-of-the-road approach when he said we have to tolerate other religious views in a free country. I am not with that. Hell, no.
There are plenty of places to put a mosque, so why does one have to go up next to a very sacred place for Americans? I don’t care how much the issue is debated. Nor do I care whether New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is behind it. And I’m glad that Florida gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink now opposes it.
The terrorists attacked us, and they got us into two wars where American men and women are still being killed. Building the mosque is an insult to the victims of 9/11 and the kids who serve in our armed forces. Hell, 7,000 soldiers have died in Iraq and Afghanistan.
If the Muslims involved with the Ground Zero mosque really wanted to show Americans that not all people of the Islamic faith are bad, why don’t they help support the families of 9/11 victims?
Muslims don’t need to explain their religion to Americans. We can go online to find out about Islam. Sure, there are many good Muslims, but we also know there are a bunch of messed-up radicals who want to strap bombs to themselves and kill babies.
Orlando, FL-The al-Rahman mosque in Orlando, FL, a Muslim Brotherhood owned and operated property, is caught funding terrorism via George Galloway, self-admitted Hamas fundraiser, and Imam Mahdi Bray, public Hamas supporter.
The holy site is believed by many to be the place where Jesus rose from the dead.
We sent an email to the Department of Agriculture yesterday afternoon, asking for confirmation concerning their co-sponsorship (with the Muslim Brotherhood-associated Coordinating Council of Muslim Organizations) of the Tuesday, August 31 special workshop on “direct access” grants and financial assistance, combined with an Iftar dinner with Muslim federal employees. The “direct access” grants workshop was promoted by the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) to “cut the red tape” with several federal agencies (Homeland Security, Health and Human Services, Agriculture, White House, Education, etc) for 20 invited – but unnamed – Muslim groups, under CCMO’s associated Muslim Brotherhood sponsorship.
We received a reply email from the USDA at 3:01 pm with the instructions, “You can feel free to attribute this to ‘a USDA spokesperson.’” The email was not sent from the USDA Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships Director Max Finberg, nor his colleagues Jon Granberg-Michaelson and Julie Curti, to all three of whom we had directed these questions:
Can you confirm that there will be a meeting with Muslim non-profits tomorrow at the Department of Agriculture HQ building?
When and where will the meeting be held?
Can press attend, given the public interest in knowing who is attending and the controversial background of the co-sponsor CCMO?
Can other non-profits attend, even if they are not Muslim?
Will you release the list of attendees, by name and organization, from non-profits and also attendees who are government employees, elected or appointed officials, or other individuals?
What did ISNA mean in their newsletter about “cut the red tape” and “direct access”?
Was your office aware of the background of the CCMO Officers? If so, when did you become aware of their background? If not, who handles vetting of co-sponsors in your organization, and why was the CCMO association with the Muslim Brotherhood not identified by that person or persons?
Who recommended CCMO as co-sponsor?
Is it the policy of the U.S. Department of Agriculture to co-sponsor events with organizations publicly associated with the Muslim Brotherhood, like the event being held tomorrow?
If so, what other events co-sponsored with these Muslim Brotherhood-associated organizations are planned, and who will sponsor and attend?
The response from “USDA spokesperson” was, in entirety:
To enhance our effectiveness in reaching those in need of USDA’s services, we continue to meet with a broad range of leaders and organizations to explain what services USDA provides to the American people and ways in which we can strengthen our outreach efforts. We have met with leaders from a number of groups representing underserved communities as well as a number of faith-based organizations such as Bread for the World, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger. These meetings are not open to press.
That doesn’t answer a single one of the questions, but it does show how much respect the Department of Agriculture’s current administration holds for the public’s interest in transparency when multiple agencies meet with known Muslim Brotherhood-associated groups like CCMO, including agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security, for special consideration for grants and financial assistance.
None at all.
And apparently they feel the Muslim Brotherhood is an underserved community. I feel sure the Muslim Brotherhood would agree.
They indeed wish to be served by the U.S. Government and the American people.
And on August 31, at the event co-sponsored by CCMO, they got their wish.
While Democrats’ climate agenda remains on hold heading into this fall’s midterm elections, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency vows it will take action to roll out it’s own new regulations on greenhouse gases. A senior administration official tells Reuters:
The agency “has a huge role to play in continuing the work to move from where we are now to lower carbon emissions”, said the official, who did not want to be identified as the EPA policies are still being formed.
President Barack Obama, looking to take the lead in global talks on greenhouse gas emissions, has long warned that the EPA would take steps to regulate emissions if Congress failed to pass a climate bill. …
The senior official stopped short of saying the EPA alone would achieve Obama’s goal of about 17 percent reductions in greenhouse gases by 2020 from 2005 levels.
Though Congress isn’t likely to act on the president’s climate change agenda in 2010, the EPA expects it will do so in coming years, the official said.
Among the EPA’s new rules will be new fuel-efficiency standards for America’s motor vehicles, a policy hammered out by the EPA and the Department of Transportation. In addition, the EPA is also unilaterally working to regulate greenhouse gases from “stationary sources” such as power plants and factories.
Starting next year the EPA will require large power plants, manufacturers and oil refiners to get permits for releasing greenhouse gas emissions, though details are unclear.
The EPA will also require industrial sources to submit analyses on the so-called “best available technology” they could add to their plants to cut emissions under the existing Clean Air Act.
In today’s uncertain economy, it’s not clear new regulations based in dubious policy will affect job-makers.

Purportedly the Pied Piper events took place in Hamelin on June 26, 1284. The story is that a rat infestation led to a reward for their removal. A piper arrived in town seeking the reward for removing the pests. Denied his reward he retaliated by luring all the town’s children away.
We’ll never know whether the Pied Piper of old entered a desperate Hamelin as a con man or as the go-to guy to lure the rats out of Dodge.
An increasingly irrelevant mainstream media (MSM) and headed-for-midterm Democrats are now blaming Obama for going too far to the left.
They blame him for creating economy-destroying policies and for letting ideology override reason and logic in a way that threatens those values that made the US successful. But they were the same ones who brought him to town to get rid of the rats personified by the nasty capitalists, bankers, industrialists, and entrepreneurs who forged the most successful economy and society in history.
It takes a real town overrun by rats to seek the services of a celebrated Pied Piper. A rat’s nest created by ideology run amok is only a manufactured crisis.
The MSM and Dems were the ones who idolized and promoted Obama while failing to see what was so frighteningly obvious. As they say, there are none so blind as those who will not see. You are known by the company you keep is another appropriate cliché because you have to deliberately overlook the long list of Obama’s associations to know what the man was about. If it was just Jeremiah Wright or Bill Ayers an excuse is possible, but there are too many people accompanied by too numerous actions, activities and writings to ignore or pretend they were of no significance.
You can argue that Obama is a con artist who pretended to be more centrist during the campaign, but that only fooled those who wanted to be fooled. Obama and his gang, with the contrivance of the MSM, silenced those who did see what he was doing by inferring they were right wing racists. For them there is no pleasure in “I told you so.”
His duplicity and confidence tricks continued once in power. Publicly he tended to be mealy-mouthed about his positions so the MSM continued to believe he was not an extreme leftist. He did this so well that the extreme left, which knew he was putting on a show to get elected, believed he had sold them out. Despite this his actions were so rapid and extreme that an increasing percentage of those were fooled were beginning to see the realities. The MSM only began to catch on recently as they saw more and more people, especially Democrats, begin to abandon the Piper. (~THIS Piper WANTS MSM to abandon me! Bah!)
Meanwhile Obama was implementing his left wing policies leading to almost total government control by avoiding the checks and balances the Founding Fathers had put in place to anticipate actions by such a demagogue. They were opposed to totalitarianism whether it came from the left or right. 20th century Americans never dreamed it could come from the left and with such lightning speed. They did not realize that once a bureaucratic Frankenstein was created it could not be killed and would require constant appeasement. Worse, they perpetuated problems rather than resolving them. Another cliché fist; you can’t beat City Hall. This involved almost total subservience and surrender of freedom, the very values that makes the US successful and unique. People tend to think of smaller government as fewer representatives, but that is only the tip of the iceberg.
Pied Piper Obama has taken the children in the form of the bureaucracies and that percentage of the population who want government to do everything for them. The cliché that evolves from the Pied Piper story is that the piper must be paid. In Britain the new conservative government and the people are already confronted with the cost.
The end of the Pied Piper Obama story is still in the making.
Not likely those who hailed him at his inauguration ever thought they’d star in the modern remaking of the Pied Piper as the rats deserting a sinking ship.
~Interview on Fox News Sept. 4th
Clayton Morris: Welcome back to Fox and Friends on this Saturday morning. Well the developer of the Ground Zero mosque had promised that he would not take money from sketchy sources, remember this.
Sharif El-Gamal: We will not take money from Iran, we will not take money from Hamas, we will not take money from organizations that have un-American values.
Ainsley Earhardt: Interesting because in 1999 a key financial backer of the mosque reportedly donated at least $6,000 to a so-called charity which was linked to Hamas. The money man was Hisham Elzanaty who is an Egyptian-born businessman who’s contributed to what’s described as a significant, or was described as a significant investment to the Ground Zero Mosque. And we are joined now by Ray Locker of the Investigative Project on Terrorism. Thank you so much for being with us. Do you think at the time of this donation he knew that they were linked to Hamas?
Locker: Oh probably not, I mean there was plenty of evidence out there for people who wanted to find it, but in many cases, people didn’t want to find it, and he probably didn’t think about it, and thought he was giving it to an orphanage. When they were prosecuted or shut down by the government a few years later, the Attorney General John Ashcroft said that they had duped a lot of people.
Morris: Right so they did dupe a lot of people, but it raises larger questions though, doesn’t it Ray, about this guy Sharif El-Gamal and some of the shady dealings in – first of all we know that he’s had seven run ins with authorities, he’s been charged with soliciting prostitutes at certain points in his life, there are some really serious questions about this guy’s past. And he won’t talk to Fox. He’s being completely mum about it. What have you been able to find?
Locker: Well not so much about El-Gamal, I mean we found that he has had these legal problems, as have most of the people in New York media found that, and his inability to kind of come clean about where they’re going to get their money is troubling. You know, that’s been an ongoing theme throughout this situation.
Earhardt: You know let’s say he didn’t know that he was giving money to this group that was linked to Hamas, is this still grounds to say we don’t want a mosque built near 9/11 or near the Ground Zero site?
Locker Well it certainly doesn’t help the pro-mosque people, I mean this is just another thing that makes people wonder where the money is going to come from, wonder about the propriety of the project, you know, all of this is kind of accumulating, and it just doesn’t, you know, help the people who want to build the mosque.
Morris: We’re still trying to figure out where more of this money came from and they have not been forthcoming about some of these donors, some of these investors, El-Gamal has said they are going to be completely transparent about this entire process but that hasn’t been the case. Are we likely to uncover more of these shady business dealings?
Locker: Well it’s possible we don’t know who all of his investors are and it’s very possible that if you find another person like Elzanaty whose given money to a charity, there are going to be more problems.
Earhardt: How did all of this come out – how did we investigate and find this information out?
Ray Locker: Well we worked with Charles Leaf, the Fox reporter that you had on earlier, and we had the documents from the Holy Land Foundation trial in our system and we found El-Zanaty’s contribution that way.
Earhardt: Well Charles even said, he’s talked to some of the investigators, and he said back in the ’90’s it was pretty much known by all who were involved with that group, that they were linked to Hamas. It wasn’t proven until the late ’90’s though.
Locker: Well that’s true, Steven Emerson, our group’s founder did a documentary that ran on PBS in late ’94, that highlighted the concerns about the Holy Land Foundation, and that was a widely seen documentary, it was a Polk award-winning documentary, so people knew about it, and the Dallas Morning News did a lot of significant reporting on that issue throughout the ’90’s. So it wasn’t something that was hidden from public view.
Morris: Well Ray Locker we appreciate you joining us this morning and staying on top of this story.
Locker: Thank you very much.
Morris: Thanks Ray.
Earhardt: Definitely Interesting findings.
Morris: Yeah, absolutely.
Earhardt: Very suspicious.
Morris: Will there be more to come out?
Mosque Investor Was Terror Contributor
Fox 5 News reported Thursday that one of the financial backers of the Islamic mosque and cultural center project in Lower Manhattan once contributed to a terror group, although the investor says the contribution was made because he thought he was giving money to a harmless charity.
One of the key players in Sharif El-Gamal’s Mosque near Ground Zero is Egyptian born businessman, Hisham Elzanaty. Fox 5 News has learned exclusively and confirmed with Mr. Elzanaty’s attorney that Elzanaty made a “significant investment” in the development of the mosque near Ground Zero.
Fox 5 has also uncovered Elzanaty has teamed up with El-Gamal on at least two real estate deals: the controversial mosque site and another deal involving a commercial property in the Chelsea section of Manhattan.
In the Chelsea deal, mortgage documents show Elzanaty played a major role signing off as the guarantor on El-Gamal’s $39 million mortgage.
When Fox 5 News reporter Charles Leaf tracked down Elzanaty outside his Long Island home in Roslyn Heights last week Elzanaty avoided the camera and did not answer a single question about his business dealings with El-Gamal.
Fox 5 News has also learned that in 1999 Hisham Elzanaty sent money to an organization that would later be deemed by the U.S. government to be a terrorist group.
The organization was the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, also known as HLF. The now defunct group’s 1999 tax records show Elzanaty contributed more than $6,000 to HLF.
Two years later, in 2001, HLF was shut down by the federal government and designated as a global terrorist. After a mistrial in 2007, in 2008 five HLF leaders were convicted of providing material support to Hamas.
The Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT) is a non-profit research group that focuses on radical Islamic terrorist groups. The research group shared its information on HLF with Fox 5 News and IPT’s Managing Director, Ray Locker tells us HLF, “masked what their true purpose was, they funneled money to Hamas which used that money to conduct terrorist operations. In many cases they gave that money to the widows and children of so-called martyrs. ”

For more than six decades, Kansas City has kept a volatile shrouded secret, even from itself.
Kansas City produces parts for nuclear weapons. We craft huge proportions — 85 percent of the non-nuclear parts for these weapons of mass destruction.
We’ve been such a good work force, the federal government has a reward. On Wednesday, ground will be broken for a nearly $1 billion new plant in south KC, replacing the Bannister Federal Complex.
But few locally seem aware.
Knowledge about nuclear weapons production in our city should be so well-ingrained in the public consciousness that people ought to be able to discuss it anywhere — in a coffee shop, after church, at the proverbial water cooler. Even if the other person disagreed with your opinion, at least they’d have one.
Instead, Kansas City for the most part has settled into benign ignorance that the plant even exists. Supporters of the new plant cite a litany of financial boons: the tax revenue the Grandview School District will reap, 2,100 jobs to be kept in the area and construction work.
Among the few, but most provocative, statements in opposition came last week from Bishop Robert W. Finn of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph.
Spliced with Catholic doctrine, the words nonetheless serve as a primer for anyone interested in a moral analysis.
“Nuclear weapons are by their very nature weapons of mass destruction: their force and impact cannot be contained, and their use affects combatants and non-combatants alike,” Finn said.
The idea of nuclear arms as a deterring force, probably the most favored stand of supporters, is also challenged.
“The enormous increase in arms represents a grave threat to stability and peace. The principle of sufficiency, by virtue of which each state may possess only the means necessary for its legitimate defense, must be applied both by states that buy arms and by those that produce and furnish them.”
The church supports “balanced and controlled disarmament.”
For years, this nuclear work has been shielded from public recognition by the shorthand used to refer to the plant: AlliedSignal, Bendix and now Honeywell. Rarely mentioned is the more foreboding federal overseer: the National Nuclear Security Administration.
Labor Day is a respite from day-to-day duties to think more broadly. As the U.S. struggles to rebuild its economy for new eras, what types of manufacturing should be included? With the Cold War ended and nuclear disarmament agreements signed, what role should Kansas City play in keeping that promise?
Wednesday is a groundbreaking that ought not to be celebrated, but contemplated.
