Online marathon raises money to send care packages to troops overseas

We Are Move America Forward

Move America Forward (MAF) is the largest grassroots pro-troop organization in the United States, committed to supporting the brave men and women of our military and their efforts to defeat terrorism. As a not-for-profit charitable organization, we are dedicated to preserving America’s heritage of freedom and liberty. MAF was formed in early 2004 by the Honorable Howard Kaloogian and acclaimed media personality, Melanie Morgan.

Since its inception, MAF has organized several national tours, hosting rallies to support the troops in cities across the country and produced many television and radio advertisements. We have organized several trips to Iraq and Guantanamo Bay and pioneered the “Troopathon,” a first of it’s kind program combining television, radio, and print media stars that raised over $2 Million for our troops in the first two years we’ve done it. Through our care package program, we have sent over 168 TONS of care packages to Iraq and Afghanistan —all to support our troops.

We are continuing our efforts to support the troops with a new Troopathon for 2010: “Standing for Our Soldiers.”

Alex has been all over this Corexit from the beginning. When I want to know if there are any new developments I follow his blog–http://blog.alexanderhiggins.com

Via Florida Oil Spill Law G4 reports that the combination of Oil and Corexit from the BP Gulf Oil Spill is eating through the boat hulls of vessel of opportunity ships contracted by BP to clean up the oil spill and rescues animals caught in the oil slick.

G4: I’ve seen guys who that have volunteered to clean up birds that were working for BP. The hulls of their boats, whether its from the oil or from the Corexit, are being eaten through. And they are saying that ‘I volunteered this ship to help with this effort, there is no way BP is gonna pay me back for that.’

BP Spokesperson: Yes they will. The claims process is not perfect yet, we are working on it, but yes they’ll be paid. …

G4: I think you should share your proprietary information if its eating through kidneys.

MORGAN HILL, Calif. – Central Coast News broke the story about a California school sending students home for wearing patriotic clothing. Then it made national headlines. On Wednesday, it’s heading to court. Central Coast News talked to the attorney who filed the lawsuit and found out what the students are asking for. The three Live Oak High School students were told to change their clothes or face suspension. Now, they want to make sure that never happens again. Three families filed a lawsuit against the Morgan Hill Unified School District, its Principal Nick Boden and Assistant Principal Miguel Rodriguez. We spoke with William Becker, the Los Angeles Attorney representing the families.

“We’re not seeking money damages, we are asking the court for an order that the school acted unconstitutionally by restricting the students first amendment rights. And we are also asking the court for an injunctive relief, indicating the school is forbidden from practicing those policies in the future,” said Attorney William Becker.

Principal Boden said he told the students to take off the shirts or face suspension because he thought the American flag could cause problems on a Mexican holiday. We talked with the families after the students were sent home for wearing the American flag on Cinco De Mayo, they were all angry about the school’s decision, but never talked about filing a lawsuit. At the time, one of the students sent home said he didn’t see any problems with students showing any sort of patriotism, for America or Mexico.

“I have no problem with them wearing their Mexico flags or anything like that, I just thought I’d show my pride, American Pride,” said Live Oak High School Student Dominic Macio.

We called the school district, but the superintendent wasn’t available. The office; however, said it didn’t know anything about the lawsuit. Principal Boden and Assistant Principal Rodriguez were not available for comment.

Illegal immigration crackdowns popping up across the country have a common thread: a 44-year-old constitutional law professor and former Bush administration attorney who crafted the legal framework behind Arizona’s controversial immigration law.

Kris Kobach has become a sought-after figure for states and cities looking to replicate tough immigration statutes similar to Arizona’s new law, which gives unprecedented power to local police in questioning and detaining individuals they suspect are in the country illegally.

Kris Kobach

Kobach was the legal architect behind Arizona’s SB 1070, which is being challenged by the Obama administration. With that combination of cachet and infamy, he’s become the go-to guy for crafters of copycat laws, and he is putting his mark on legislation across the country, most recently in Fremont, Neb.

“I’ve been in touch with state representatives in Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Alabama and Idaho,” Kobach said in an interview with FoxNews.com.

Kobach, of Kansas City, Mo., has paved a formidable path for himself in legal and political circles, positioning himself as a rising star within the Republican Party. He has at the same time attracted a host of critics, from lawmakers to civil libertarians who say his work promotes racial profiling.

Kobach’s crusade against illegal immigration began when he was working for the Justice Department under Attorney General John Ashcroft in the days following the Sept. 11 attacks. Kobach helped create the “National Security Entry-Exit Registration System,” which required immigration officials to fingerprint and question more than 80,000 male visitors, most of whom were from Muslim countries. None was ever charged with terrorist activity, however, and the program was eventually cancelled.

Mark Levin explains how the Disclose Act threatens the First Amendment ~ Pay Close Attention

By Warner Todd Huston Saturday, June 26, 2010

On June 24 the House of Representatives passed by a bare minimum number of votes the DISCLOSURE Act, a law that is supposed to be a new effort to get around the recent US Supreme Court decision that struck down parts of Congress’ campaign finance law. Bare minimum or no there is no doubt that this new law is an unconstitutional mess that unfairly limits the free political speech of some Americans while giving an unfair advantage to unions and certain lobbyists — lobbyists including the National Rifle Association and Big Labor groups such as the AFL-CIO and the SEIU.

The DISCLOSURE Act (full name, Democracy is Strengthened by Casting Light on Spending in Elections Act) was passed through the House by a 219 to 206 vote with only two Republicans voting in favor and 36 Democrats voting against. The two Republicans that voted in favor were Mike Castle of Delaware and Joseph Cao of Louisiana.

So what is this law supposed to do? For one thing the law would require “special interest group officials to physically appear at the end of campaign ads they sponsor, acknowledging their campaign contributions.” It would also require that advocacy groups detail on their public websites every campaign they’ve donated to.

But, as it turns out, Democrats excluded some of the biggest spenders on political ads and campaigns in the country, most of them their patrons. In a manager’s amendment the Democrats excluded any organization that has over 1 million members. That leaves Big Labor free and clear of these new disclosure rules. It also leaves the National Rifle Association free of the new requirements.

And this is precisely what makes the whole thing unconstitutional. It is true that Congress has made rules requiring disclosure of campaign donations and it is also true that the courts have declared it constitutional. But those laws were all levied equally on everyone. The laws affect everyone that donates a certain amount of money and higher, for instance. This law treats some donations as necessary of disclosure while affording other donations the luxury of secrecy.

The DISCLOSE Act is the work of tyrants ~ Congress Votes to Stifle Political Speech — By Christian Newswire

WASHINGTON, Concerned Women for America condemns, the passage of the DISCLOSE Act in the House of Representatives today. Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America, stated:

“The DISCLOSE Act is designed to stifle Americans’ legitimate right to political speech and carves out exceptions for powerful special interest groups and unions. It places onerous regulations on small business owners and grassroots groups if they attempt to educate the public on candidates and issues.

“The politicians who voted for this bill have put themselves on record as being against an essential tool through which America came to be a country—the public communication of political views. The brave founders of our country used the public means of their day to inform and persuade citizens, anonymously when so desired. This raw grab for power in an attempt to silence opposition by burdening citizens with regulations is the work of tyrants.”

The DISCLOSE Act requires organizations to name their top donors in ads that mention candidates—even if the donors did not fund the ads. Their CEOs must appear in the ad and twice state their name and the organization’s name. The most “significant” donor must list his name, rank, and organization three times in the ad, and the names of all donors who give $600 or more to the organization must be handed over to the Federal Election Commission (FEC). Groups must post a link on their website to the FEC, where a list of their donors’ names can be accessed. It also bans election-related communications 90 days before the primaries up till the general election.

Concerned Women for America is the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization.
