It is that time of the NASCAR calendar when TNT takes over for FOX for the next six Sprint Cup races starting Sunday at noon from Pocono Raceway. The “Countdown to Green” pre-race show will kick things off followed at 1 p.m. by the Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500 presented by Target.

“Countdown to Green” will be hosted by NBC4 sports anchor Lindsay Czarniak, who has been working for TNT as a pit reporter and has now been promoted to the host of the pre-race show, where she will be joined by the entertaining and outspoken duo of Kyle Petty and Larry McReynolds. I spoke to Czarniak about what to expect on the opening show.

Former Redskins coach Joe Gibbs’ racing team features two of the top NASCAR drivers — Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin —who also happen to be feuding. (Getty Images)

Czarniak talking about her show » Well, on the first show I have a sit down interview with a very familiar face — none other than former Redskins coach Joe Gibbs. We have a great conversation about his team, and as race fans know, there is a feud going on between his top two drivers, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin. They also happen to be two of the best drivers in NASCAR. Coach Gibbs and I will talk about what he’s doing to keep the drivers, the team and all the media attention around their feud under control.

Czarniak on her new role » I am really honored to be hosting the pre-race show and I think that all my experience as a pit reporter will serve me well in my job. Then there is the chance to work with Larry Mac [McReynolds] and Kyle [Petty], who are never at a loss for observations and for opinions. There is no doubt that they will keep things entertaining. We will not only be doing the pre-race, but there will be times during the action that I will keep fans updated on the latest storylines, both on TV as well as at NASCAR.com, while “Larry Mac” will use our new TNT Off-Track Robotic Carwhich to provide a unique look inside the engine and allowing him to break down pit crew car strategies.

Multiple sources are reporting that seven Green Bay Packers players have been interviewed in connection with a sexual assault case early Saturday morning in Lake Delton, Wisconsin at the Wilderness Resort Golf Cabins. The players were in the area for a charity golf tournament hosted by LB Clay Matthews, Jr., who was also one of the players interviewed in connection with the two alleged sexual assaults.

Six of the seven players have reportedly been identified and are no longer suspects. They are Matthews, Jr., QB Matt Flynn, OG Josh Sitton, OLB Brad Jones, S Khalil Jones, and FB Korey Hall. The seventh player has not been identified due to an ongoing investigation and is reportedly still being investigated. The player has reportedly admitted to consensual sexual contact with the two alleged victims, who obviously are saying the contact was not consensual.

More details are likely to come in the coming days, and when they do Net Dugout.com will have it covered. As always, we will assume innocence until proven guilty for the yet-to-be identified Packer.

The Mexican government is opening a satellite consular office on Catalina Island — a small resort off the California coast with a history of drug smuggling and human trafficking — to provide the island’s illegal Mexican immigrants with identification cards, The Washington Examiner has learned.

The Mexican consular office in Los Angeles issued a flier, a copy of which was obtained by The Examiner, listing the Catalina Island Country Club as the location of its satellite office. It invites Mexicans to visit the office to obtain the identification, called matricular cards, by appointment.

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, a Republican whose district includes Catalina Island, said handing out matricular cards will exacerbate an already dangerous situation.

~ NOTE: For many years Dana & Tancredo were the only ones we could get to listen & they were at the forefront of this issue. Try fighting Bush on it & his supporters…that took me from being a Conservative Republican to being a Patriotic Conservative. Many people ex-communicated like me

“Handing out matricular cards to Mexicans who are not in this country legally is wrong no matter where it’s done,” he said. “But on Catalina it will do more damage. It’s a small island but there’s evidence it’s being used as a portal for illegals to access mainland California.”

Rohrabacher added, “If there were a large number of Americans illegally in Mexico and the U.S. consulate was making it easier for them to stay, Mexico would never permit it.”

Mexican officials with the consular office in Los Angeles could not be reached immediately for comment. The matricular consular identification card, is issued by the Mexican government to Mexican nationals residing outside the country, regardless of immigration status. The purpose is to provide identification for opening bank accounts and obtaining other services. But the cards are usually used to skirt U.S. immigration laws, since Mexicans in the country legally have documents proving that status, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials said.

In 2004 testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee, FBI officials called the card an unreliable form of identification. The agency said that Mexico lacks a centralized database for them, which could lead to forgery, duplication, and other forms of abuse.

Officers with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said their agency was asked by Mexican officials not to enforce U.S. immigration laws on the island while the cards were being issued.

“It amazes me every time that the Mexican government has the gall to tell us what to do,” said an ICE official, who asked not to be named. “More surprisingly is how many times we stand by and let them. This is just an example of one of hundreds of requests we’ve had to deal with.”

In April, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies seized a boat carrying large quantities of marijuana and detained three Mexican nationals who said they were being smuggled into the United States.

The island has a sizable Mexican migrant population. Most are undocumented low-income workers.

Ah! Good old Church Sanctuary

UPDATE:

Mexican government officials have moved their satellite consular office from the Catalina Island Country Club to a Catholic Church – citing protection under the Geneva Convention.

I am beginning to think that our tax collecting agencies across the country send out a form letter to everyone that is in arrears with their taxes to immediately apply for a job in Barack “Most Ethical Administration in Decades” Obama’s administration. Here we have another Obama lieutenant that didn’t pay his taxes until someone began to inquire after them.

Obama’s Chief of Staff, who decided that he was far, far important to be expected to pay his property taxes here in Chicago. Emanuel suddenly remembered to pay his taxes — three months late — right after WBBM Newsradio 780AM began to investigate the story.

Emanuel owed $7,400 for his late property taxes on his Ravenswood home and paid $445.56 in penalties once WBBM began to look into the story.

One has to wonder how many more weeks… months… years… the Emanuel’s would have gone scofflawing their property taxes if it weren’t for WBBM radio looking into them?

If Emanuel is anything like many other Obama administration tax avoiders it would likely have been years.

And, isn’t it amusing that these guys only pay their taxes once some one investigates their refusal to pay taxes and threatens to publicize it all?

(Reuters) - Thousands of worshippers attended an open-air mass in Warsaw on Sunday for the beatification of a Polish priest and anti-communist activist murdered by the secret police in 1984.

Reuters

“Sto lat” (One Hundred Years)

Sto lat, sto lat,
Niech żyje, żyje nam.
Sto lat, sto lat,
Niech żyje, żyje nam,
Jeszcze raz, jeszcze raz, niech żyje, żyje nam,
Niech żyje nam!

This translates roughly into English as:

A hundred years, a hundred years,
May he (she) live for us.
A hundred years, a hundred years,
May he live for us.
Once again, once again, may he live, live for us,
May he live for us!

JUST my little contribution to my heritage -g-

Back to the story…

The mass, conducted by papal delegate Archbishop Angelo Amato in a central Warsaw square, brought Father Jerzy Popieluszko, a key figure in the anti-communist Solidarity movement, a step closer to sainthood.

“(Popieluszko) epitomised truth, honesty, love and freedom of conscience, but the system of evil did not accept such values, so he was harassed, tormented, tortured and killed,” Amato said during the service.

“The forces of contempt had no respect for human life and cast his body away like an animal’s carcass.”

The congregation, estimated at between 130,000 and 140,000, included groups in traditional costumes, miners in black uniforms and plumed hats, soldiers, nuns, Boy Scouts and former Solidarity members.

Leading Polish officials including Prime Minister Donald Tusk as well as presidential candidates Bronislaw Komorowski and Jaroslaw Kaczynski prayed before an altar bearing Popieluszko’s motto “overcome evil with good”.

During martial law rule from 1981 to 1983, Popieluszko became an icon of the opposition and thousands flocked to hear his sermons. The 37-year-old priest was kidnapped, tortured and killed and his body dumped in the Vistula River.

The beatification process, a necessary step on a road to sainthood, began in 1997 but was fast-tracked last December when Pope Benedict decided Popieluszko could be considered a martyr.

The ceremony was due to be followed by a 12-km (7.5-mile) procession through the city to the southern suburb of Wilanow, where his remains would be enshrined in the Church of Divine Providence.

Should the United States surprisingly take down England in the two teams’ massive showdown in their first game of the 2010 World Cup (Saturday, 2:30 p.m., ABC), it will come 60 years after the greatest World Cup win in U.S. soccer history. The 1950 victory over England could stand with any list of the tournament’s most notable upsets:

PLAYER TO WATCH

Miguel Cabrera, 1B, Detroit Tigers
The 27-year-old slugger is always in the running for winning an MVP, finishing in the top five three times. But this might be his best chance of winning one. Cabrera leads the majors in RBI and is on pace to drive in 160 runs. No one has reached that total since Sammy Sosa hit 64 homers and had 160 RBI in 2001. And Cabrera isn’t just swinging for the fences. He entered the weekend third in the AL in batting (.352). The Tigers first baseman could set career highs in homers, RBI and batting average and flirt with the triple crown.

STORYLINES

1. Woes of the O’s » Blame former manager Dave Trembley if you want. Baltimore general manager Andy McPhail and owner Peter Angelos both did on Friday when they fired him. But both men also know that the problems in Birdland run far deeper. Young “stars” like Adam Jones, Brian Matusz and Matt Wieters just aren’t contributing enough. Why? Because all three are still learning at the major league level. And as long as the Orioles don’t surround this crew with a stronger group of veterans, this is what you’ll get — by far the worst record in the game and a good man canned for it. There are still more stud pitchers on the way from Norfolk. But fans who fancied Baltimore a contender were kidding themselves. Maybe in 2012.

Ken Griffey Jr. (Getty Images)

2. Saying goodbye to “The Kid” » Ken Griffey Jr. retired with 630 home runs (fifth most all-time). He won a Gold Glove every year in the 90s and made 13 All-Star Games. But he remains one of the biggest “what ifs?” in baseball history. As a 30-year-old, Griffey was traded from the Mariners to the Reds and proceeded to miss 453 games in eight full seasons in Cincinnati. Imagine if Griffey was not plagued with injuries. How many records would he have broken? Would he have become the greatest player since Babe Ruth? During his prime he had power, speed and charisma. Griffey will be a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer and is one of the best players of his era. But it’s hard not to imagine “what if?”
