GOP USA Commentary » Dick Morris

We now know that Obama’s Deputy Chief of Staff, called Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff in September, 2009, to offer him one of three enumerated jobs if only he would drop out of the Democratic Senate primary in which he was challenging appointed Senator Michael Bennet. But the question is why?

In the case of the Spector/Sestak bribe, the answer is obvious: The Obama Administration wanted the Pennsylvania Senator to switch parties so that they would have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. To persuade him to switch, the White House had to do its utmost to clear the field and assure him a safe path to the Senate nomination in his new political party. So, Rahm Emanual asked former President Bill Clinton to dangle positions in front of Sestak to get him to drop out of the race.

But Michael Bennet was no great friend of the White House. Having never been elected to a statewide position, he lacked a political base and was never a particularly strong candidate. He only got the Senate seat as an appointment to fill the seat vacated by Senator Ken Salazar who gave up the seat to become Secretary of the Interior in the Obama Administration. So why was the Obama Administration trying to clear the field for Bennet and assure him of the nomination?

The answer likely lies in the politics of health care. Bennet had been a question mark from the beginning of the health care debate. The Huffington Post reported, on November 22, 2009, that he was willing to lose his Senate seat if he had to in order to back health care reform. The Post reported that his dramatic announcement ended months of silence on the subject and relieved White House concerns that he was not going to back the bill.

Funny how Bennet’s announcement came less than two months after Romanoff was offered a job to drop out of the race!

If a connection can be documented between the offer and the vote (no other motivation seems credible) the transaction becomes particularly sickening. Trading a job for a vote is the crassest and most obvious form of bribery. But what else can account for Bennet’s sudden morph from being on the fence over health care to an ardent supporter who would lose all rather than see it die?

In any case, we need to help Jane Norton, Colorado’s former Lt Governor, beat either Bennet or Romanoff in the general election in the fall. She holds a lead and we need to throw this kind of horse trading bribery politics out of office.

This one failed but what’s next? When will our do nothing – but – spend president wake up and close the border?

This 2001 photo shows Falcon Dam, a reservoir on the lower Rio Grande, that reportedly was threatened.

An alleged plot by a Mexican drug cartel to blow up a dam along the Texas border — and unleash billions of gallons of water into a region with millions of civilians — sent American police, federal agents and disaster officials secretly scrambling last month to thwart such an attack, authorities confirmed Wednesday.

Whether or not the cartel, which is known to have stolen bulk quantities of gunpowder and dynamite, could have taken down the 5-mile-long Falcon Dam may never be known since the attack never came to pass.
“We trust that DPS and their federal and local law enforcement partners are constantly collecting intelligence and monitoring all threats to Texas and taking the appropriate action to protect our citizens from those who would do us harm,” said Gov. Rick Perry’s deputy press secretary Katherine Cesinger.

LOS ANGELES – How angry are Americans?

People primed for change vote in 12 states Tuesday in contests that will decide the fate of two endangered Washington incumbents — a two-term senator in Arkansas and a six-term congressman in South Carolina — while setting the stage for some of the races that could determine the balance of power on Capitol Hill in the fall.

In an Arkansas runoff, Sen. Blanche Lincoln could fall to a fellow Democrat, Lt. Gov. Bill Halter, who says “the only way to change Washington is to change who we send there.” South Carolina Republican Rep. Bob Inglis is trying to fend off primary challengers who have made the race a referendum on his 2008 vote to bail out up the nation’s banking industry.

The political strength of the tea party movement faces tests in several states, particularly in Nevada, where three Republicans are in a bruising fight for the chance to take on Democrat Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader, in November.

Republicans in California could send two political neophytes, wealthy former business executives Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina, into races to succeed Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and challenge Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer.

In an election season overshadowed by the ailing economy and unhappiness with Washington, three longtime incumbents already have lost: Sens. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, and Arlen Specter, D-Pa., and Rep. Alan Mollohan, D-W.Va. A party switcher new on the scene, Democrat-turned-Republican Rep. Parker Griffith of Alabama, stumbled this past week as voters demanded ideological purity.

A Pew Research Center poll in April found that public confidence in government was at one of the lowest points in a half century. Bennett calls the political atmosphere toxic. Races on Tuesday will provide fresh evidence of how far people want to go to shake up statehouses and Washington.

“I’ve become frightened over what our government is doing,” says Roxanne Blum, 57, a Republican from Pahrump, Nev. She’s alarmed by the soaring debt and has seen firsthand, through her work in the mortgage industry, the damage caused by Nevada’s highest-in-the country foreclosure rate.

Once excited by Reid’s ascendancy in Washington leadership, she now sees him as out of touch with his economically troubled home state. “When he comes here, he does lip service,” she says.

MILWAUKEE, WS. – Local U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, in close partnership with the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD), arrested 15 illegal alien gang members during the last two days. This is the latest joint local action of an ongoing national ICE effort to target foreign-born members of violent street gangs.

These arrests were made June 2-3 under an initiative by ICE’s National Gang Unit dubbed “Operation Community Shield.” As part of the initiative, ICE partners with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies across the country to target the significant public safety threat posed by transnational street gangs. Partnerships with local law enforcement agencies are essential to the initiative’s success, and they help further ensure officer safety during the operations.

All but one of those arrested are foreign-born members and associates of the following street gangs: Brown Pride, Latin Kings, Mexican Posse and C-14. Of the 15 men arrested, all are Mexican nationals except for one individual from the former Yugoslavia.

Twelve are currently in ICE custody on administrative immigration charges pending removal proceedings, including a fugitive with an outstanding deportation order. One was previously deported to Mexico and is facing federal charges for illegally re-entering the United States after deportation. Two are in MPD custody; ICE has placed detainers, or “immigration holds,” on them to ensure they will be turned over to ICE for removal proceedings when they are released from local custody.

“Street gangs pose a growing public safety threat to communities in the Milwaukee area,” said Gary Hartwig, special agent in charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Chicago. “With each gang member we arrest and remove from the United States, we’re making a positive impact in our communities and improving public safety.”

“The Milwaukee Police Department’s partnership with ICE on this operation will remove some of the violent gang members from the streets of the south side of Milwaukee,” said Milwaukee Police Chief Edward A. Flynn. “In their absence, we hope to return the public spaces to the residents who rightfully should be able to enjoy them and to live free from crime, fear and disorder.”

ICE’s National Gang Unit identifies violent street gangs and develops intelligence on their membership, associates, criminal activities and international movements to deter, disrupt and dismantle gang operations by tracing and seizing cash, weapons and other assets derived from criminal activities.

Through Operation Community Shield, the federal government uses its powerful immigration and customs law enforcement authorities in a coordinated, national campaign against criminal street gangs in the United States. Transnational street gangs have significant numbers of foreign-born members and are frequently involved in human and contraband smuggling, immigration violations and other crimes with a connection to the border.

Since ICE began Operation Community Shield in February 2005, more than 17,500 gang members and associates belonging to more than 900 different gangs have been arrested nationwide.

More information on the National Gang Unit at ICE is available at: www.ice.gov.

The public is encouraged to report suspicious activity by calling the ICE toll-free hotline at: 1-866-347-2423. This hotline is staffed around the clock.

Big Government

The Obama Administration is concerned their takeover of the financial industry is at risk and are offering Republicans a fig leaf to buckle.

First they deny there was a bailout in the legislation. Now they are proposing the removal of a $50 billion fund that oversees future bailouts.

Don’t be fooled — the $50 billion is just a downpayment to administer future bailouts. The funding for the permanent bailouts will come from the Federal Reserve under the Blank Check Bailout bill.

The House bill authorizes the Fed to spent $4 trillion to bailout and “wind down” companies. The Senate bill doesn’t have a cap.

The Administration’s play is a sleight of hand. Don’t be fooled. If they were serious about ending future bailouts, the legislation would have a prohibition against it. It doesn’t.

JUST don’t drink the Kool-Aid

A Democratic congressman is seeking to strip the word “navigable” from the 1972 Clean Water Act to allow the Environmental Protection Agency to surpass the limits imposed by a 2001 Supreme Court ruling on the kinds of waterways the agency can regulate

Watch yourself folks, regulating your toilet paper is right around the corner

A Democratic congressman is seeking to strip the word “navigable” from the 1972 Clean Water Act to allow the Environmental Protection Agency to surpass the limits imposed by a 2001 Supreme Court ruling on the kinds of waterways the agency can regulate.

That word typically is interpreted to refer to any body of water that is “deep enough and wide enough to afford passage to ships.”

But Rep. James Oberstar, D-Minn., who worked on the 1972 legislation as a Capitol Hill staff member, said he is trying to restore the original intent of the law.

“I know what it means and it says the purpose of this act is to establish and maintain the chemical, biological and physical integrity of the nation’s waters,” Oberstar said.

Some Republican advocates of land rights are wary, fearing that striking the word “navigable” from the Clean Water Act will bring every lake, pond, creek or mud hole under the EPA’s control.

“It potentially puts government in charge of all waters, including mud puddles, irrigation ditches,” said Rep. Doc Hastings, R-Wash. “If you take out ‘navigable’ in this bill, it could potentially lead to the federal government usurping state laws as it relates to water and regulating, therefore, mud puddles. I just think that’s bad policy.”

And that, he says, could place onerous burdens on farmers, ranchers and some small businesses. Not all Republicans are aligned against Oberstar’s bill. Some feel his bill strikes the right balance.

JUST shaking head…

Over at The Next Right, the’ve pieced together some interesting connections about the White House’s ties to British Petroleum, better known as the company currently polluting the Gulf of Mexico. We all know Obama was the biggest recipient of BP’s campaign cash in Washington, but it seems BP’s ties to the White House run even deeper.

http://tinyurl.com/38udc59

According to The Next Right, PR firm Greenberg Quinlan Rosner “helped BP plan and evaluate its successful re-branding campaign, focusing the company’s branding on energy solutions, including the development of solar and other renewable energy sources.”

The firm’s Stanley Greenberg is married to Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn. There was something of a flap last year when it was pointed out that White house Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel had been living in the couple’s Capitol Hill townhouse, resulting in a lot of questions about whether or not this arrangement violated congressional ethical guidelines.

http://tinyurl.com/abjepd

Further, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee paid Greenberg’s firm some $500,000 in 2006 and 2008 while Emanuel was living with Greenberg, and Emanuel was even in charge of the DCCC during the 2006 election cycle.

And I’d be willing to bet that BP has paid Greenberg Quinlan Rosner a lot more than that. I doubt I’m the only one who thinks that BP’s relationship with the White House might be a little too close for comfort.

Note: ~ Stanley Greenberg is an interesting guy. He is married to CT Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro, a close ally of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi http://tinyurl.com/256hsll

Greenberg is the principal of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, a large polling and public relations firm. They do both political campaign work and “corporate communications” work.

The DCCC has paid Greenberg’s firm in excess of $500,000 during the 2006 and 2008 election cycles. They are also Dick Blumenthal’s pollster

But let’s look at the corporate side, where Mr. Greenberg promises to “help corporations increase competitiveness and profitability, improve reputation, and take advantage of global trends.”

Who are they helping? British Petroleum

It’s ALL tied together here…

On a tip from Byron. 24 hrs ago

It turns out the farcical “Freedom Flotilla” was community organized by communist terrorists:

Former Weather Underground leaders William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, as well as Code Pink founder Jodie Evans, helped organize the Free Gaza Movement, which launched the six-ship flotilla from Turkey to Israel that ended in a violent clash with Israeli Defense Forces, BigGovernment.com reported.

Other misdeeds by Ayers and Dohrn include leading the Maoist terrorist cult the Weather Underground; publicly advising people to kill the rich and their own parents; instigating riots; participating in the bombings of New York City Police Headquarters, the Capitol building, and the Pentagon; killing police officers; inventing the “fork salute” in honor of the Charles Manson killings; plotting to set off a nail bomb at an officers dance at Fort Dix; boasting in the September 11, 2001 New York Times of having no regrets about acts of terrorism; and worst of all, using their own living room to launch the political career of Barack Hussein Obama.

Jodie Evans of Code Pink has a rap sheet that includes smuggling $600,000 to terrorists fighting American troops in Fallujah and serving as one of Obama’s top fundraisers. She now seems to hold the position of the Taliban’s ambassador to Washington.

Readers will recall that Ayers, Dohrn, and Evans have teamed up on behalf of Hamas before. Assisting the bloodthirsty terrorist outfit in its campaign to annihilate Israel appears to be their follow-up to the disastrously successful Manchurian Moonbat project.

That these vermin have placed one of their own in the White House means it is not a good time to be Israeli — or American.

Thanks for Doing it Politico!

BP has also spent millions each year on lobbying — including $15.9 million last year alone — as it has tried to influence energy policy.

While the BP oil geyser pumps millions of gallons of petroleum into the Gulf of Mexico, President Barack Obama and members of Congress may have to answer for the millions in campaign contributions they’ve taken from the oil and gas giant over the years.

BP and its employees have given more than $3.5 million to federal candidates over the past 20 years, with the largest chunk of their money going to Obama, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Donations come from a mix of employees and the company’s political action committees — $2.89 million flowed to campaigns from BP-related PACs and about $638,000 came from individuals.

On top of that, the oil giant has spent millions each year on lobbying — including $15.9 million last year alone — as it has tried to influence energy policy.

During his time in the Senate and while running for president, Obama received a total of $77,051 from the oil giant and is the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over the past 20 years, according to financial disclosure records.

An Obama spokesman rejected the notion that the president took big oil money.

~Oh sure, like this administration would admit ANYTHING!

“President Obama didn’t accept a dime from corporate PACs or federal lobbyists during his presidential campaign,” spokesman Ben LaBolt said. “He raised $750 million from nearly four million Americans. And since he became president, he rolled back tax breaks and giveaways for the oil and gas industry, spearheaded a G20 agreement to phase out fossil fuel subsidies, and made the largest investment in American history in clean energy incentives.”

In Congress, Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), who last week cautioned that the incident should “not be used inappropriately” to halt Obama’s push for expansion of offshore drilling, has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of BP’s largesse. Her comments created some blowback, with critics complaining that she is too blasé about the impact of the disaster, even though she was among the first lawmakers to call for a federal investigation into the spill.

As the top congressional recipient in the last cycle and one of the top BP cash recipients of the past two decades, Landrieu banked almost $17,000 from the oil giant in 2008 alone and has lined her war chest with more than $28,000 in BP cash overall.

GOP USA by Thomas D. Segel

Having never been a lawyer or even playing one on television may place me at a disadvantage. But, I do read the English language quite well. From everything I have seen in print, the American people have every right to take the entire United States Government into court.

According to legal definition, every elected federal government official is a “Fiduciary” of the American people. The fiduciary is “someone who has undertaken to act for and on behalf of another in a particular matter of circumstances which give rise to a relationship of trust and confidence.”

Using this definition, the President of the United States, the Vice President and all members of Congress have a fiduciary duty to every citizen of the United States. That duty demands the highest standard of care at either equity or law. Protecting the United States borders against all illegal entry would fall well within that scope of responsibility.

It can be considered a breach of fiduciary responsibility when actions are not taken on behalf of those placed in positions of trust. Since all elected federal officials have sworn to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America and it is a constitutional duty to defend the borders of the country. That defense of the border and the laws of immigration become a fiduciary responsibility of all elected federal officials. The daily violations of those borders and the millions of illegal aliens now in the United States are clear proof that all of these officials have failed in that duty.

To bring suit against these government officials, citizens must understand that the federal government, like another entity that causes harm to innocent people can be charged with violations of law that damage citizens. There may be a question as to the nature of such charges, be they criminal or civil. A case could be argued on behalf of either.

It could also be argued that failure to enforce secure borders leads to property damage, the killing of livestock, theft, and as we now see in Arizona, even murder. That would mean those officials who through their inaction or inattention have brought about these violations of our borders have even participated or have been party to criminal acts.

If we were to look at the failure to secure our borders from a civil framework, all costs brought about by individual citizens seeking to protect themselves and their property, all property losses, all business losses, etc. could be claimed and sought as damages from those officials who failed in their fiduciary responsibility.

The federal government has, by its own politically motivated actions and inactions placed itself in opposition to the American people. Maybe it is time that we all hold them accountable for their conduct and their failure to respond to the will of the people.
