Christian Daniel Castro Alvarez sat silently with his head down throughout the sentencing by U.S. District Judge M. James Lorenz in San Diego.

SAN DIEGO — A 17-year-old Mexican youth was sentenced Thursday to 40 years in prison for the murder of a U.S. Border Patrol agent who was shot repeatedly during a robbery attempt.

Christian Daniel Castro Alvarez sat silently with his head down throughout the sentencing by U.S. District Judge M. James Lorenz in San Diego.

Castro pleaded guilty in November to murdering a federal officer near Campo, a mountainous area about 60 miles east of San Diego. He told authorities that he and others were attempting to rob the agent, Robert Rosas.

The sentencing came as a furious debate rages around America on a new Arizona law that requires local and state law enforcement officers to question people about their immigration statuses if there’s reason to suspect they’re in the country illegally.

The courtroom was packed with uniformed Border Patrol agents as the judge read a letter written by the defendant apologizing to the family of the 30-year-old Rosas.

Rosas was shot several times in the head, from behind and while lying on the ground. Castro’s attorney had argued that two accomplices now in Mexico fired the fatal shots.

Castro told authorities the killing occurred during the attempted robbery he was forced to commit under threat of death.

A probation officer had urged a life sentence for Castro. Federal guidelines call for a minimum sentence of 30 years.

Rosas was the first Border Patrol agent to be killed by gunfire since 1998, according to The Officer Down Memorial Page, a website that tracks death of law enforcement officers.

U.S. authorities say Castro acted with others but have not said how many or announced arrests. The suspects are believed to have fled back to Mexico through a small crevice under a border fence made of corrugated metal, sparking a massive search on both sides of the border.

Castro surrendered to authorities at a San Diego border crossing last August, less than a month after Rosas died on the night of July 23, but his capture was not announced until he pleaded guilty three months later. He was charged as an adult.

Castro confessed that he and others lured Rosas out of his Border Patrol vehicle by leaving footprints on a dirt road, shaking bushes and making noises, according to prosecutors. Rosas, who was patrolling alone, was ambushed and stripped of his gun about 100 yards from the border.

Castro, who was 16 at the time, told authorities he was holding Rosas at gunpoint when the agent reached for Castro’s firearm. Castro shot once and shouted for help to his collaborators, who were walking toward Rosas’ vehicle. They opened fire.

Castro said one of his collaborators shot him in the hand, leaving a trail of blood back to Mexico. Castro’s DNA matched the blood.

Immigrant advocates are being arrested in front of the White House fence, after sitting down and defying orders from police.

April 30: Hundreds of Latino high school students walked out of Denver area high schools to protest Arizona's immigration law.

Immigrant advocates are being arrested in front of the White House fence, after sitting down and defying orders from police.

About three dozen protesters and U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez of Illinois joined in the civil disobedience Saturday. They held a sign saying, “Obama, Stop deporting our Families.” Some wore T-shirts that read “Arrest us, Not our Families.”

Protesters are usually required to stay in motion when demonstrating in front of the White House.

Hundreds of protesters turned out for the rally at Lafayette Park, urging President Obama to fulfill his campaign promises to achieve immigration reform.

Obama was to return to the White House around 2:40 p.m. after speaking at the University of Michigan. Two Marine helicopters flew overhead, but it wasn’t clear if Obama was on board.

April 29: A a drop house is raided by state and federal agents, yielding nine suspected illegal immigrants, and three suspected human smugglers in Phoenix.

Obama had once promised to tackle immigration reform in his first 100 days, but has pushed back that timetable several times. He said this week that Congress may lack the “appetite” to take on immigration after going through a tough legislative year. However, the president and Congress could address related issues, like boosting personnel and resources for border security, in spending bills this year.

Activists said outrage over Arizona’s controversial immigration law “awakened a sleeping giant” Saturday as rallies demanding federal immigration reform kicked off in cities across the country.

In New York, Labor organizer John Delgado said anger over the law — which requires local law enforcement to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they’re in the country illegally — drew more than 5,000 people to a rally at Manhattan’s Foley Square.

“That’s the fuel that motivated them to come here, because of the sadness of the Arizona law,” said Delgado, who is business manager for Local 79 of the Construction and General Building Laborers Union.

Arizona lawmakers say their new immigration enforcement law will them fight an illegal immigrant crime wave that is sweeping the state, a claim that is backed by studies and statistics that suggest border states have a disproportionately high number of criminals who are illegal immigrants.

Arizona lawmakers say their new immigration enforcement law will help them fight an illegal immigrant crime wave that is sweeping the state, a claim that is backed by studies and statistics that suggest border states have a disproportionately high number of criminals who are illegal immigrants.

“We’ve been inundated with criminal activity. It’s just — it’s been outrageous,” Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer told Fox News.

“Crime is off the chart in this state,” added Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, president of the Arizona Association of Sheriffs.

Critics have called Arizona officials racist, intolerant and downright unconstitutional for passing the law, which makes illegal immigration a state crime and allows police to demand documentation from anyone they suspect is an illegal immigrant.

While the correlation between illegal immigrants and crime is almost impossible to quantify precisely, the available numbers indicate that Arizona — as well as California and Texas — are dealing with increased crime as a result of high illegal immigrant populations and activity.

President Barack Obama signed a $787 billion stimulus bill when he first took office in 2009, but a new Pew poll shows that most Americans don't think it worked. Read more:

Nearly two-thirds of Americans do not believe the $787 billion stimulus package the president passed last year has helped create jobs, according to a new Pew Research Center poll.

Sixty-two percent of those polled said the stimulus hasn’t contributed to job creation, while 33 percent said the package has.

Only a slight majority, 51 percent, of Democrats think the stimulus helped create jobs; 42 percent said it has not. Seventy-nine percent of self-identified Republicans said the stimulus didn’t aid job growth, while 18 percent thought it did.

The survey also showed that voters are mixed on whether the Troubled Asset Relief Program was effective in staving off a deeper financial crisis.

Forty-nine percent said TARP did not prevent a more severe crisis, compared to 42 percent who said it did.

Still, despite the pessimistic outlook on two of the Obama’s administration’s signature economic initiatives, most Americans think the country’s economy will be either better or the same a year from now.

Forty-two percent expect the economy to get better, while 36 percent think it will stay the same. Nineteen percent believe the economy will get worse.

The poll was based on interviews with 1,546 adults nationwide conducted April 21-26 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

New York: 2 U.S. citizens charged with aiding al-Qaeda

They wanted to help “modernize” al-Qaeda — ironic, considering al-Qaeda’s thoroughly un-modern vision for society. “2 N.Y. men charged with aiding al-Qaida,” from the Associated Press, April 30:

NEW YORK – Two U.S. citizens were charged Friday with conspiring to provide computer assistance, watches and other support to help “modernize” al-Qaida.

A vaguely worded indictment unsealed Friday in federal court in Manhattan accused Wesam El-Hanafi of traveling to Yemen to meet with unnamed al-Qaida members in February 2008.

The terrorists “instructed him on operational security measures and directed him to perform tasks for al-Qaida,” the indictment says. While there, he also “took an oath of allegiance to al-Qaida,” it adds.

In February 2008, El-Hanafi bought computer software that allowed him to secretly communicate over the Internet, federal prosecutors allege. That summer, he met with an unnamed co-conspirator and the second defendant, Sabirhan Hasanoff, in Brooklyn to discuss joining al-Qaida, according to the indictment.

The confidential co-conspirator paid $50,000 to Hasanoff, who later traveled to New York City and performed unspecified “tasks for al-Qaida,” the court papers say. The papers say that the conspiracy included El-Hanafi purchasing seven Casio digital watches, but doesn’t say why.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said the men had schemed “to modernize al-Qaida by providing computer systems expertise and other goods and services.” His office declined further comment.

El-Hanafi, 33, and Hasanoff, 34, were to make an initial court appearance in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia. Friday afternoon.

Kentucky Fried Chicken’s website for Denmark hacked with subliterate prating about offending Islam

The hackers “left instructions to the Danish government to introduce a new law to punish people who publicly insult religion [i.e., Islam],” and “implied in their demands that if the law is not introduced, the hacking of Danish websites will continue.”

“Denmark’s KFC website targeted by Islamist hackers,” from the Daily Mail, April 30:

Denmark’s KFC website has been targeted by Islamist hackers.

The hackers decided to gain access to the fast food site and post an educational video about their religion on the page.

They also left instructions to the Danish government to introduce a new law to punish people who publicly insult religion.

The hackers implied in their demands that if the law is not introduced, the hacking of Danish websites will continue.

Emoticon jihad: if graven images are haram, it didn’t stop these guys:

The hackers left a slightly cryptic message on the site, which read: ‘If your Gov. don’t make rules for Punishing anyone Insult Religions in the name of (Freedom of Speech ! ) or ( Freedom to Insult ) :)

‘So, take this rule of Hacking ! in the name of

‘[ Hacking is a Knowledge and the Knowledge is Free !!!]

‘If your People can behave and Learn how to Respect , act rationally and stop to Insult Other Religions

‘under the name of ( Freedom to Insult ) or ( Freedom of Speech )

‘Then the Rule of Hacking will be stopped

State Department leaves Chechen jihadist group that killed dozens on Moscow subway off official list of terrorist groups

The State Department seems to think that, among the other attacks carried out by Doku Umarov’s group, a massacre on the Moscow subway isn’t jihadi enough for the jihadi club. This decision seems far more political than practical, though it is not clear what Foggy Bottom hopes to gain by looking the other way. “State Department to leave Chechen rebel group off terror list,” by Josh Rogin for Foreign Policy, April 29:

The State Department’s update of its annual list of official terrorist groups is imminent, but the group that just attacked Moscow won’t be on the list.

The Caucasus Emirate, which has been waging a jihad against the Russian government, is led by Doku Umarov, who calls himself the “emir of the North Caucasus.” He was previously President of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, but dissolved that Republic and established the Emirate in its place in 2007 in order to impose sharia law in his territory.

Hamas-linked CAIR loses hijab case in Michigan

The facts of this case smack of sheer opportunism, and in this case, the judge saw through it. “Dearborn Heights woman told to remove hijab loses court case,” by Paul Egan for the Detroit News, April 29 (thanks to all who sent this in):

Detroit — A federal judge today dismissed a lawsuit against a Wayne County judge accused of telling a woman to remove her Islamic head scarf.

U.S. District Judge Marianne O. Battani ruled there was no evidence Wayne Circuit Judge J. William Callahan knew Raneen Albaghdady’s head covering had religious significance when he asked her to remove it during a name change petition last June.

“Albaghdady never protested removal of her head piece, she never informed defendant that her ‘hat’ was a hijab, and most critically, when asked to remove it, said, ‘OK. It doesn’t matter,'” Battani said in an 11-page opinion dismissing the lawsuit brought by the woman and the Council on American-Islamic Relations of Michigan.

“There simply is no evidence that Callahan would have required the removal of a head covering if he had known of its religious significance.”

Albaghdady of Dearborn Heights said in an affidavit she acquiesced because she was “terrified and scared,” but Battani, who reviewed a videotape of the court proceeding, said “her demeanor in court does not comport with her assessment of her feelings.”…

Science author Glenn Murphy will answer the common and perplexing problem “Why is snot green” at Kings College University of Aberdeen Writers Festival on May 11, 2010.

Murphys first book, “Why Is Snot Green?”, explained many scientific mysteries to children.

Murphy is a best selling author.

Why would a renowned scientist and author write a book called “Why is Snot Green”. He knows his audience.

Childrens fascination with bodily functions, bugs, animals, stars, the moon, why grass is green, why blood is red, and just plain WHY is the start of many a scientific career.

Britain has faced a lack of interest in the scientific disciplines and Murphy has made it part of his business to interest children and adults alike in science as a career.

Murphy now resides in North Carolina in the United States. Perhaps he can assist the federal governments various programs that seek to interest young people in careers in science.

Humor sells just like sex and money.

If your kid asks why snot is green you now have an authoritative scientifically based resource that you can read together to answer this puzzling and thought provoking question.

EU Times

NOTE: There are a few websites that do not like this paper, but like InfoWars, sometimes they have something right to say. I have read reports from the men who jumped & said the explosion happened ‘after’. So I leave this story up to your discretion. Common sense & instinct will guide you. JUST my opinion…

A grim report circulating in the Kremlin today written by Russia’s Northern Fleet is reporting that the United States has ordered a complete media blackout over North Korea’s torpedoing of the giant Deepwater Horizon oil platform owned by the World’s largest offshore drilling contractor Transocean that was built and financed by South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., that has caused great loss of life, untold billions in economic damage to the South Korean economy, and an environmental catastrophe to the United States.

Most important to understand about this latest attack by North Korea against its South Korean enemy is that under the existing “laws of war” it was a permissible action as they remain in a state of war against each other due to South Korea’s refusal to sign the 1953 Armistice ending the Korean War.

To the attack itself, these reports continue, the North Korean “cargo vessel” Dai Hong Dan believed to be staffed by 17th Sniper Corps “suicide” troops left Cuba’s Empresa Terminales Mambisas de La Habana (Port of Havana) on April 18th whereupon it “severely deviated” from its intended course for Venezuela’s Puerto Cabello bringing it to within 209 kilometers (130 miles) of the Deepwater Horizon oil platform which was located 80 kilometers (50 miles) off the coast of the US State of Louisiana where it launched an SSC Sang-o Class Mini Submarine (Yugo class) estimated to have an operational range of 321 kilometers (200 miles).

On the night of April 20th the North Korean Mini Submarine manned by these “suicidal” 17th Sniper Corps soldiers attacked the Deepwater Horizon with what are believed to be 2 incendiary torpedoes causing a massive explosion and resulting in 11 workers on this giant oil rig being killed outright. Barely 48 hours later, on April 22nd , this North Korean Mini Submarine committed its final atrocity by exploding itself directly beneath the Deepwater Horizon causing this $1 Billion oil rig to sink beneath the seas and marking 2010’s celebration of Earth Day with one of the largest environmental catastrophes our World has ever seen.

To the reason for North Korea attacking the Deepwater Horizon, these reports say, was to present US President Obama with an “impossible dilemma” prior to the opening of the United Nations Review Conference of the Parties to the Treat on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) set to begin May 3rd in New York.

This “impossible dilemma” facing Obama is indeed real as the decision he is faced with is either to allow the continuation of this massive oil leak catastrophe to continue for months, or immediately stop it by the only known and proven means possible, the detonation of a thermonuclear device.

Russian Navy atomic experts in these reports state that should Obama choose the “nuclear option” the most viable weapon at his disposal is the United States B83 (Mk-83) strategic thermonuclear bomb having a variable yield (Low Kiloton Range to 1,200 Kilotons) which with its 12 foot length and 18 inch diameter, and weighing just over 2,400 pounds, is readily able to be deployed and detonated by a remote controlled mini-sub.

Should Obama choose the “nuclear option” it appears that he would be supported by the International Court of Justice who on July 8, 1996 issued an advisory opinion on the use of nuclear weapons stating that they could not conclude definitively on these weapons use in “extreme circumstances” or “self defense”.

On the other hand, if Obama chooses the “nuclear option” it would leave the UN’s nuclear conference in shambles with every Nation in the World having oil rigs off their coasts demanding an equal right to atomic weapons to protect their environment from catastrophes too, including Iran.

To whatever decision Obama makes it remains a fact that with each passing hour this environmental catastrophe grows worse. And even though Obama has ordered military SWAT teams to protect other oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico from any further attack, and further ordered that all drilling in the Gulf of Mexico be immediately stopped, this massive oil spill has already reached the shores of America and with high waves and more bad weather forecast the likelihood of it being stopped from destroying thousands of miles of US coastland and wildlife appears unstoppable.

House Republican Leader John Boehner has said that his party will repeal the new health care law if the GOP gains a congressional majority in November.

“I think that we need to repeal the health care law and replace it with common-sense steps that will lower the cost of health insurance in America,” Boehner (R-OH) tells NPR’s Steve Inskeep.

Boehner and the Republicans are hoping for a repeat of 1994, when the GOP swept the midterm elections. He says the party is engaging with the public to develop the agenda it will enact if it secures a majority in November.

The party that controls the White House typically loses House seats during midterm elections, and Democrats are bracing for losses: 37 governorships, 36 Senate seats and the entire 435-member House are at stake.

Boehner says he’s optimistic about his party’s prospects, citing public anger over spending and debt. He says he believes “at least 100 seats” are in play.

“If [Republican Sen.] Scott Brown can win in Massachusetts, there isn’t a seat in America the Republicans can’t win,” Boehner says. “What we’re seeing every day is the playing field widen, widen beyond anything we’ve seen around here during my 20 years.”

But Republicans face criticism that much of their time in the minority has been spent opposing Democratic proposals. Boehner rejects that charge, saying his party offered ideas on the stimulus bill, the budget and health care.

“If you look over the course of the last 16 months, every time we’ve had to oppose our Democrat colleagues, we’ve offered what we thought was a better solution,” he says.

“If Scott Brown can win in America, there isn’t a seat in America that Republicans can’t win,” House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) declared. (source: NPR)

New extremists are being created in our prisons, the very institution meant to deter crime. Two stories recently broke about people who converted to Islam in prison that acted in violent compliance with their new ideology. The media, for the most part, dropped the stories, leaving the American people unaware of the growing trend.

The October arrest of a man in Ohio named Abdullah Mohammed Muslim, formerly known as Johnnie Clagg, has now come to light. He was pulled over and arrested by a police officer for identity theft in order to get a passport so he could leave the country. Law enforcement searched his house and found a large stockpile of weapons…

Conversion to Islam in prison, and in large urban areas has also contributed to its growth over the years. American Muslims come from various backgrounds, and are one of the most racially diverse religious group in the United States according to a 2009 Gallup poll.

Last week, when Iran withdrew its candidacy for a seat on the United Nations Human Rights Council, I got messages from a number of folks who were almost sorry to see Iran drop out of the race. That’s not because they like Iran’s regime. It’s because seating Iran on the rotten Human Rights Council would have been an act so grotesque that anyone could grasp the problems with the Council – much as Libya chairing the old Human Rights Commission in 2003 served to discredit that rotten body once and for all.

Well, for all those who were disappointed that Iran’s regime will not become the convenient poster-child for the UN’s travesty of a Human Rights Council, there’s a carnival of cold comfort ahead.
