Among the most frequent nongovernmental guests at the White House: union chiefs, a banker and a Chicago billionaire.
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama has worked closely with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to pass health care reform and other measures, but there are a number of private-sector figures whose names appear more frequently in White House visitor records.
They include labor leaders, an executive for a Swiss bank and a Chicago billionaire.
In late March the White House released the latest batch of its public visitor records, identifying a total of more than 250,000 people who have stopped by 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. since the start of the Obama presidency.

In “Obama Can Remove Jihad From the National Security Strategy Document, But Can He Remove It From Islam?” at Big Journalism, April 7, Pamela Geller discusses the latest in a string of disastrous decisions in Obama’s policies toward the Islamic world and the global jihad:
Of all the subversive acts ever in the history of the United States of America, and even during this post-American Administration, this one is the killer: Barack Obama plans to remove all discussion of Islam and jihad from the central document of our national security strategy. Under Bush, the National Security Strategy document declared:
The struggle against militant Islamic radicalism is the great ideological conflict of the early years of the 21st century.
Now it won’t say anything about “militant Islamic radicalism” at all.

Ever since the influential Muslim scholar Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri last month issued a 600-page fatwa, or religious ruling, condemning terror, he has been at the center of international discussions about Islam, Al-Qaeda, and the morality of suicide bombings. Qadri, a Pakistani, is the founding leader of Minhaj ul Qur’an International, a worldwide organization which promotes education in the Islamic sciences. RFE/RL Turkmen Service correspondent Muhammad Tahir speaks with him about why he issued the fatwa and what impact it has had.
Chechen jihadists have provided inspiration to Islamists across the world. Threats to India could emanate from Russia’s battlefields in future.
“The Mujahid,” wrote Chechen jihadist Shamil Salmanovich Basayev, “never asks anyone for permission to strike with his sword; he just takes the sword in his hand. He will never waste his time explaining his actions; he is faithful to what has been predetermined by God.”
The world is about to get a lot more dangerous. For more than 60 years, the United States has been the pre-eminent nuclear power in the world, and the world has been safer as a result. While anti-nuclear fanatics warned of an apocalypse if the U.S. continued to expand and improve its nuclear arsenal during the Cold War, the reality was that our superiority over our enemy and our unwillingness to foreswear the use of nuclear weapons prevented the conflagration many feared. Now, President Barack Obama is determined to abandon six decades of proven nuclear deterrent policy in favor of a fantasy that he can rid the world of these dangerous weapons by tying America’s hands behind our backs.

…none of the American soldiers who are currently in the region would go back to America alive”
Not one? Not even one? How could the Iranians possibly accomplish that, except with a…nuclear weapon?

In October 2008, Colombian authorities arrested thirty-six Lebanese expatriates on money laundering and drug charges. This was more than a standard criminal syndicate, however — the group was transferring a portion of its profits back to Hizballah.

Washington — Nuclear doctrine consists of thinking the unthinkable. It involves making threats and promising retaliation that is cruel and destructive beyond imagining. But it has its purpose: to prevent war in the first place.
During the Cold War, we let the Russians know that if they dared use their huge conventional military advantage and invaded Western Europe, they risked massive U.S. nuclear retaliation. Goodbye Moscow.
Was this credible? Would we have done it? Who knows? No one’s ever been there. A nuclear posture is just that — a declaratory policy designed to make the other guy think twice.
